The Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni has ordered the
\nimmediate transfer of the ongoing investigations into the inhuman sexual
\nassault and death of Miss Vera Uwaila Omosuwa which occurred recently in
\nBenin, Edo State from the Police State Headquarters, Benin to the Force
\nheadquarters, Abuja, a statement signed by Force Spokesman, DCP Frank
\nMba has said<\/p>\n
According to Mba, the IGP’s directive is a sequel to the preliminary
\nreport from the team of investigators and forensic experts earlier
\ndeployed to assist the Edo State Police Command in the investigations
\ninto the unfortunate incident. The DIG in charge of the Force Criminal
\nInvestigation Department (FCID), DIG Anthony Ogbizi Michael, FDC will
\nhenceforth provide direct supervision and ensure a speedy and thorough
\ninvestigation of the case.<\/p>\n
In a similar vein, the IGP has ordered the immediate deployment of
\nspecialized investigators and additional investigation assets to all the
\nGender Desks Offices and the Juvenile Welfare Centres (JWC) across the
\ncountry. This is to strengthen and enhance the capacity of the Units to
\nrespond to increasing challenges of sexual assaults and
\ndomestic\/gender-based violence linked with the outbreak of the COVID-19
\npandemic and other social ills within the country.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the IGP has called on members of the public to provide the
\npolice with useful information that could aid investigations into
\nongoing cases of sexual assaults and domestic\/gender-based violence
\nacross the country. He also enjoins parents and guardians to pay closer
\nattention to their children and wards in these trying times.<\/p>\n
