Abuja, the country\u2019s capital, as a fresh power tussle between President
\nMuhammadu Buhari\u2019s Personal Assistant and Private Secretary, Sabiu
\n\u2018Tunde\u2019 Yusuf, and his wife, Aisha, the First Lady, gathers dust.According to findings by SaharaReporters, trouble started on Monday when
\nYusuf returned from a private trip to Lagos where he had journeyed to
\nalongside five women from Daura, Kano, and Abuja to spend the weekend.<\/p>\n

Upon his return to the Villa, he was asked by President Buhari\u2019s Aide De
\nCamp, Mohammed Lawal Abubakar, Chief Personal Security Officer,
\nAbdulkarim Dauda, to self-isolate in order to protect the President and
\nthe entire State House Staff since he had earlier met with recent
\ncontacts of late former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National
\nPetroleum Corporation, Maikanti Baru, who passed away recently from
\nCoronavirus related complications.<\/p>\n

But rather than heed the advice of the men by embarking on a 14-day
\nself-isolation, Yusuf, one of the most powerful and influential
\nindividuals around President Buhari, flatly refused and pushed his way
\ninto the Villa.<\/p>\n

Worried that his presence could expose them to danger, the first family
\nintervened in the matter on Thursday but rather than a solution being
\narrived at, things quickly spilled out of control after the security
\nattached to the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, moved in and had Yusuf removed
\nfrom the Presidential Villa.<\/p>\n

Feeling slighted by that incident, the young man said to be in his early
\n30s connived with Buhari\u2019s Chief Security Officer, Idris Kassim, to have
\nthe Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma,
\narrest the First Lady\u2019s ADC, Usman Shugaba, Escort Commander and other
\npolicemen attached to the first family.<\/p>\n

SaharaReporters reliably gathered that all the arrested security attache
\nto the First Lady are still in police cell on the orders of the CSO to
\nthe President and Yusuf.<\/p>\n

A source in the Villa, who confirmed the development to SaharaReporters,
\nsaid, \u201cSince the death of late Chief of Staff to President Buhari, Abba
\nKyari, Yusuf had almost become the defacto \u201chead of state\u201d calling the
\nshots in Aso Villa.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ADC and Escort Commander of the First Lady were unlawfully detained
\nby the FCT Commissioner of Police under the instructions of the Chief
\nSecurity Officer to the President, Mr Idris Kassim, and Yusuf.<\/p>\n

\u201cYusuf in flagrant disregard of the Quarantine Act signed by the
\nPresident, which prohibited interstate travels and in clear violation of
\nthe NCDC protocols and guidelines, traveled to Lagos and had seen
\nvisitors of more than 15 people every day against the advice of people
\nhe is working with.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter his refusal to heed the call by the President\u2019s security men, on
\nThursday evening, the first family got involved and insisted that he
\ngoes on self-isolation and again for the second time he refused.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first family recalled to him when one of the daughters of the
\nPresident returned from school in London and had to undergo 14 days
\nisolation. They said if she could do that, why couldn\u2019t he do the same.
\nWhen the situation was getting out of hand, the security attached to the
\nFirst Lady had to intervene peacefully. Yusuf left the State House only
\nfor him and the President\u2019s CSO to give directives to the FCT Police
\nCommissioner to arrest the First Lady\u2019s ADC, Escort Commander and other
\npolicemen attached to the first family.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe protocols of the First Lady are still in police detention.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regarded as one of the wealthiest young men in Nigeria today, Yusuf
\nuntil his appointment by President Buhari was said to be surviving on
\nproceeds made from the sale of call cards in his native Daura, a small
\ncommunity in Katsina State in the Northern part of the country.<\/p>\n

He is said to have gotten the name \u2018Tunde\u2019 after being likened to late
\nTunde Idiagbon, Buhari\u2019s second in command during his military regime in
\nthe early 1980s, who was known to be powerful and strategic.<\/p>\n

During Buhari\u2019s 77th birthday in December 2019, Yusuf is said to have
\nworn a Patek Phillipe leather wristwatch valued at $99,995.00 \u2013 about
\nN36m.<\/p>\n

Presidency sources said that the young man had amassed so much wealth in
\na short space of time that he can almost afford anything money can buy
\nthese days despite not from a wealthy background or have any known work
\nhistory apart from serving in Buhari\u2019s government.<\/p>\n

Despite his glaring excesses and abuse for laid down procedures,
\nPresident Buhari has refrained from calling Yusuf to order, it was
\ngathered.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, it is not the first time that individuals in the
\npresidency would be flexing muscles against the First Lady and her
\nfamily \u2013 in December 2019 for instance, Mrs. Buhari accused Senior
\nSpecial Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, as
\nwell as Mamman Daura, a nephew and close ally of her husband, of working
\nagainst the first family.<\/p>\n

She said that while Daura had continued to give a presidential directive
\nwithout Buhari\u2019s knowledge, Shehu had switched his loyalty from her
\nhusband to some cabals within the Presidency.<\/p>\n

In a strong-worded statement, Mrs. Buhari disclosed how Shehu had
\ncontributed to soiling her name.<\/p>\n

She said at the time, \u201cAs spokesperson for the President, he has the
\nonerous responsibility of managing the image of the President and all
\nthe good works that he is executing in the country. Rather than face
\nthis responsibility squarely, he has shifted his loyalty from the
\nPresident to others who have no stake in the compact that the President
\nsigned with Nigerians on May 29, 2015 and 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo make matters worse, Mr Shehu has presented himself to these people
\nas a willing tool and executioner of their antics from the corridors of
\npower even to the level of interfering with the family affairs of the
\nPresident. This should not be so. The blatant meddling in the affairs of
\na First Lady of a country is a continuation of the prodigal actions of
\nthose that he serves.<\/p>\n

\u201cBased on Garba Shehu\u2019s misguided sense of loyalty and inability to stay
\ntrue and loyal to one person or group, it has become apparent that all
\ntrust has broken down between him and my family due to the many
\nembarrassments he has caused the Presidency and the first family.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
