Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says the Nigeria Governors
\nForum has become a toothless bulldog because it has lost focus on its
\nrole in defending the rule of law in the country.<\/p>\n
Governor Wike said the Forum used to be non-partisan and a powerful
\nvoice on national issues.<\/p>\n
He noted that since the All Progressives Congress(APC) took over the
\nleadership of the body in 2015, Governors have turned to beggars.<\/p>\n
The governor made the assertion at media parley that held at Government
\nHouse, Port Harcourt.<\/p>\n
“Before 2015, the Governors Forum used to be very powerful as symbols of
\ntheir respective states but APC killed it because they were protecting
\nthe interest of the ruling party.<\/p>\n
“During one of the rerun elections in this state, my security aides were
\nwithdrawn thus exposing me to danger, the Forum did not say anything
\nbecause the Chairman was a member of APC.<\/p>\n
” I told them then that what they were doing was wrong. Now they have
\nbecome a Beggars Forum even when there are constitutional infractions.<\/p>\n
“You can see that\u00a0 APC Governors say that they are progressive. You can
\nsee how progressive they are when they keep quiet when a fellow sitting
\ngovernor is disqualified from contesting elections.<\/p>\n
” Adams Oshiomole campaigned for Governor Obaseki four years ago. The
\nsame man has turned around to say that Obaseki has a defective
\ncertificate.<\/p>\n
“Has Oshiomole apologised to Nigerians that he supported someone with a
\ndefective certificate? Who is saying that a sitting governor has a
\ndefective certificate?\u00a0 Is it a man that does not have a certificate?<\/p>\n
” Oshiomole should be told to practice what he preaches.<\/p>\n
” APC wants to perpetrate impunity in Edo State the way they unleashed
\nterror in Rivers State in\u00a0 2019.<\/p>\n
“They think because they have the Army, Police, and INEC they can do
\nanything and get away with it.<\/p>\n
“They tried it in Rivers State but God gave us the will to say no. I
\nhope Edo people will also say no to their impunity,” he stated.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Governor Obaseki’s planned defection to PDP, Governor Wike
\nsaid he would be happy to receive him.<\/p>\n
He, however, said that he would not guarantee automatic ticket for him
\nbecause Edo people would decide.<\/p>\n
“Edo PDP has a role to play. There is nothing like an endorsement. But I
\nmust tell you that I am not happy the way he was disqualified by the APC
\nbecause it will affect his integrity, “he said.<\/p>\n
The governor debunked insinuations made by the State Chairman of the
\nNigeria Medical Association(NMA), Dr. Obelebra Adebiyi about the State’s
\nresponse towards COVID-19 and said the State Government has given the
\nMinistry of Health all that it requires to fight the pandemic.<\/p>\n
The governor stated that the increasing number of Covid-19\u00a0 cases
\nresults from more testing conducted on persons and Obelebra who is in
\ncharge of the state treatment center cannot politicise the fight by
