The President Mohammadu Buhari in a meeting with all the heads of the
\nSecurity arms, took a swipe at his Service Chiefs, condemning their
\nefforts in taming insecurity in the country and warning that henceforth,
\nexcuses would no longer be accepted.<\/p>\n
He warned the heads of the nation\u2019s security agencies that while excuses
\nwould no longer be tolerated, he asked them to double their efforts and
\ndo more to secure the nation and its people.<\/p>\n
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Retired Major General Babagana
\nMonguno, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the
\nmeeting.<\/p>\n
He added that the President has ordered him to meet with the state
\ngovernors in the North-West and that of Niger State, in other to
\nidentify the problems and find solutions to them.<\/p>\n
President Buhari met with the service chiefs against the backdrop of
\nbandit attacks on communities in the region, including those in his home
\nstate \u2013 Katsina.<\/p>\n
The attacks have left several people dead and many others injured in the
\naffected states, while lots of properties were destroyed by the bandits.
\nThis sparked criticism over the worsening insecurity in the country,
\nespecially the North West where the armed men have wreaked havoc in
\nrecent times.<\/p>\n
As part of efforts to address the situation, Monguno, in company with
\nthe Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and others had embarked
\non a fact-finding mission to Katsina and Sokoto States.<\/p>\n
Thursday\u2019s meeting had in attendance the Chief of Defence Staff, General
\nAbayomi Olonisakin; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique
\nAbubakar; the Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok Ekwe Ibas; and the Chief of
\nArmy Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai.<\/p>\n
Others included the police boss; the Chief of Defence Intelligence
\nAgency, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Usman, the Director-General of the
\nDepartment of State Services (DSS), Mr Yusuf Bichi; and the
\nDirector-General Nigeria Intelligence Agency Ahmed Abubakar.<\/p>\n
President Buhari\u2019s Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, and some
\nother members of the President\u2019s cabinet were also at the meeting.<\/p>\n
They included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss
\nMustapha; Minister of Defence, Retired Major General Bashir Magashi; and
\nMonguno.<\/p>\n
