The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) berates the Federal Government over
\nattempts to hoodwink Nigerians by concealing officially documented data
\non debts and the alarming state of the nation\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n
In a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan “Our party insists that it is
\npublic knowledge that our nation’s economy has been mismanaged arising
\nfrom excessive borrowings by President Muhammadu Buhari’s
\nadministration.<\/p>\n
“The PDP described as scandalous, disgraceful and highly irresponsible
\nthat the Buhari-led administration attempted to disprove already known
\nfacts, as presented by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, that our
\nnation\u2019s debt profile, under the Buhari administration, has risen to 99
\npercent of the revenue profile in the first quarter of 2020.<\/p>\n
“It is reprehensible that the Federal Government, through the Minister
\nof Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, would deny that its
\nfirst-quarter 2020 financial report stated that Federal Government\u2019s
\nretained revenue stood at N950.56 billion, while the total debt services
\nwere N943.12 billion.<\/p>\n
“In his denial, the minister forgot that the Medium Term Expenditure
\nFramework and Fiscal Strategy document from the Federal Ministry of
\nFinance, Budget, and National Planning showed the figures was already in
\nthe public domain.<\/p>\n
“For the avoidance of doubt, tables 3.4 and 4.3 of the report
\nrespectively, state that, \u201cas at end of March 2020, FGN\u2019s retained
\nrevenue was N950.56 billion\u201d, and that \u201cof the expenditure, N943.12
\nbillion was for debt service\u201d.<\/p>\n
“The PDP invites Nigerians to note how the response by the Federal
\nGovernment to issues raised by Atiku Abubakar has further exposed the
\nfalsehood and concealments inherent in the APC administration and why
\nour nation\u2019s economy has been in a dire strait.<\/p>\n
“The fact is that the Buhari administration has destroyed our economy
\nwith the accumulation of debts to the extent that the debt profile has
\nrisen to 99 percent of our retained revenue. No amount of whitewash by
\nthe Minister of Information can distort this fact.<\/p>\n
“It is equally inexcusable for the minister to claim that the debts
\ntaken by the administration were meant to address the poverty it brought
\nto our nation when it cannot point to any tangible project it had done
\nin any critical sector apart from turning our nation into the poverty
\ncapital of the world.<\/p>\n
“It is therefore clear that with the prevailing situation and the
\nrefusal by the Buhari-led Federal Government to take responsibility for
\nits actions, our economy is heading towards the brinks.<\/p>\n
“The PDP counsels the Buhari administration to desist from its denials
\nand take responsibility for the economic crisis and debt burden it has
\nplunged our nation into. The earlier they wake up and begin to think of
\nwhat legacy their eight years in office will be remembered for, the
\nbetter.<\/p>\n
“It will be unpardonable, if, after eight years, all that Nigerians will
\nremember the Buhari administration for is a basketful of morsels of
\nlies, huge debts, humongous corruption, escalated bloodletting, hunger,
\nstarvation and awful living conditions that were unknown to Nigerians in
\nour national history.”<\/p>\n
