There is a looming crisis in Nnewi community, Anambra state over the plan by a group, Ogbako-Oha Nnewi to whittle the powers of the traditional ruler, Igwe Kenneth Orizu (111).<\/div>\n

\nOgbako-Oha Nnewi has been described as a group, sponsored by a popular Nnewi politician to reduce the powers of Igwe Nnewi His Royal Highness, Igwe Kenneth Orizu (III)<\/p>\n

The Palace Secretary of Nnewichi, Prince Ezekwa Nwachukwu, who made this revelation, said that the creation of Ogbako-Oha, was politically motivated aimed at reducing the powers of Igwe Nnewi.<\/p>\n

It will be recalled that Ogbako-Oha in the past few weeks have made publications in different media platforms calling for the recognition of four (4) Obi in Nnewi.<\/p>\n

According to the group, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi should be recognized by Anambra State Government and given all the rights and privileges given to the one hundred and eighty-one (181) communities currently recognized by Anambra State Government.<\/p>\n

Reacting, Prince Ezenwa Nwachukwu, said the agitations of the group were not new.<\/p>\n

He said a popular politician in the town was behind the current move for the recognition of the four Obi.<\/p>\n

According to him, the politician and the group believe that recognition of the four Obi will reduce the powers that Igwe Kenneth Orizu wields.<\/p>\n

Speaking further, he said that in spite of the fact that Nnewi is a republican town, the recognition of the four Obi is not the way forward as that will not be the end of the agitation.<\/p>\n

He said that Nnewi has Twenty-five (25) villages and not Four (4) villages, as such, the agitation for division or recognition of the remaining three (3) Obi may not end the quest.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cWe have 25 Obi in Nnewi and this reflected in the sharing formula of Nnewi, if you recognize the other 3 Obi, how are you sure other sub-villages will not agitate\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe matter is in the supreme court, we need to allow judgement to be given\u201d<\/p>\n

He, however, urged those directly or indirectly supporting the current agitation to learn from Nnewi political history.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
