Rivers State Executive Council has approved the\u00a0 construction of a five<\/div>\n
\n
hundred and five meters long flyover at the GRA Junction along the Port
\nHarcourt Aba Expressway.The Thursday, June 23, 2020\u00a0 meeting that held at Government House,
\nPort Harcourt was presided over by Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.<\/p>\n

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works,
\nAustin Ben-Chioma said the council also approved the dualization of
\nEzimbu Link Road connecting Stadium Road from GRA junction and the
\nTombia Road extension linking Ikwerre road.<\/p>\n

He said Council considered the Rumuola flyover not more fitting for the
\ncity and approved its expansion to become four lanes to ease vehicular
\nmovement and boost economic activities.<\/p>\n

According to him, to ensure that motorists do not suffer untold hardship
\nduring the road construction, the state government will create
\nalternative routes.<\/p>\n

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Communications,
\nPastor\u00a0 Paulinus Nsirim announced the Council’s approval of guidelines
\nfor marriages during the Covid-19 period.<\/p>\n

He said prospective couples would be required to apply to the State
\nGovernor through the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

Such applications, he said, must be accompanied by information on the
\nvenue of the ceremony, names, addresses, and phone numbers of attendees
\nto make contact tracing easy if the need arises.<\/p>\n

He stated that henceforth, those seeking to bury their loved ones would
\nalso be expected to include names,\u00a0 addresses, and phone numbers of
\nthose to attend such funerals in their applications.<\/p>\n

Pastor Nsirim said the government would not grant approval to any
\napplication without names,\u00a0 addresses, and phone numbers.<\/p>\n

The Information Commissioner said marriages would not have more than 50
\nattendees including family members who must wear face masks and adhere
\nstrictly to the social distancing of not less than two meters.<\/p>\n

According to him, while church weddings must be conducted between 9 am
\nand 12noon, traditional marriages would be conducted between 4 pm and 7
\npm.<\/p>\n

The Commissioner said venues of marriages must have provisions for
\nrunning water and soap at three points and the venue decontaminated
\nafter the event.<\/p>\n

Pastor Nsirim said after wedding receptions are prohibited under the
\nguidelines to reduce the risk of community transmission of\u00a0 COVID-19.<\/p>\n

He added that violators of the guidelines would be made to pay a fine of
\n10 million Naira.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
