A former Nigerian Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, and others have<\/div>\n
\n
been dragged to the police by Ovumnte community in Ivo Local Government
\nArea of Ebonyi State over alleged forceful takeover and destruction of
\neconomic farmlands, their only means of livelihood.<\/p>\n

The community have already taken to peaceful protest to make the
\nNigerian government aware of its plight.<\/p>\n

In a petition to the state commissioner of police, the Ovumnte community
\nalleged that the former senate president was using his personality
\npowers alongside DPO of the Ivo Divisional Police Station, Mr. Daniel
\nNwonu to forcefully takeover the Ovumnte-Amagu lands in Ishiagu, in the
\narea.<\/p>\n

The community appealed to the Commissioner of Police to prosecute the
\nculprits, including\u00a0 Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, Chinedu Nicholas Make, Peter
\nAjah, Livinus Ukah, Godfrey Anyim, and others, who are currently
\nviolating the orders of the High Court in Suit No: HSK\/6\/2020 by
\ndestroying their farms including crops, palm trees, and other economic
\ntrees, which are their only means of livelihood in line with the
\napplicable criminal laws of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

They are also appealing that unprofessional acts\/conducts of Mr. Daniel
\nNwonu C. as DPO should be investigated and appropriate sanctions applied
\nto him.<\/p>\n

While calling for his removal as DPO of the Ivo Police Division as his
\ncontinued stay does not guarantee the safety of their lives and
\nproperties.<\/p>\n

The Save Our Souls” (SOS) petition submitted on 23rd, June 2020 at
\nOffice of the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Police was taken out
\non the criminal grounds of “FORCIBLE ENTRY, WILLFUL\/MALICIOUS
\nDESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY, DISOBEDIENCE TO THE ORDER OF THE COURT,
\nASSAULT\/INDECENT ASSAULT, ASSAULT OCCASIONING HARM, ABUSE OF PUBLIC
\nOFFICE,\u00a0 UNLAWFUL ARREST\/FALSE IMPRISONMENT, AND CONDUCT LIKELY TO CAUSE
\nA BREACH OF PEACE”.<\/p>\n

A part of the petition states that: “Sometime in the month of January
\n2020, Messers: Anyim Pius Anyim (the former Senate President of the
\nFRN), Chinedu Nicholas Make, Peter Ajah, Livinus Ukah, Godfrey Anyim,
\nand others, forcibly entered and embarked on the destruction of our
\nfarms (including our crops, palm trees, and other economic trees, and
\nhouses) at our Ovumnte-Amagu lands in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area
\nof Ebonyi State.<\/p>\n

Following the said destructions, we instituted Suit No: HSK\/6\/2020 at
\nthe High Court of Ebonyi State, against the above-named persons.
\nConsequently, the court ordered that the _status quo_ should be
\nmaintained by the parties to the suit pending the determination of the
\nsuit.<\/p>\n

However, since the 9th day of June 2020 even till the date of writing
\nthis petition, the above-named persons have, in defiance to the said
\nOrder of the Court, forcibly returned to our said lands and continued
\nthe destruction of the remaining parts of our farms (including our
\ncrops, palm trees, and other economic trees thereon).<\/p>\n

“We have run to the incumbent Divisional Police Officer SP Daniel Nwonu
\nC. who is in charge of the Ivo Police Division, to whom we complained
\nabout the said acts of Forcible Entry and Willful\/Malicious Destruction
\nof our farms, but unfortunately to us, the above-named culprits have
\nbought over the SP Daniel Nwonu C. of D.P.O.<\/p>\n

“And therefore, rather than intervening in the situation to stop the
\nacts of willful\/malicious destruction of our said farms, the SP Daniel
\nNwonu C. of D.P.O who is a tenant to the said Anyim Pius Anyim, and who
\nhas sold his said office and conscience to the culprits, joined forces
\nwith the culprits to perpetrate numerous acts of intimidation and
\ninhumanity against us, which acts of intimidation\/inhumanity include but
\nnot limited to: desperate man-hunt, unlawful arrest, torturing and
\ndetention of some of us whose farms are being destroyed by the
\nculprits”.<\/p>\n

Earlier on the evening of 15th June, 2020, members of the Ovumnte
\ncommunity had complained to the DPO in charge of the Divisional Police
\nPost in Ivo LGA, Mr. Daniel Nwonu, that their farms and lands were being
\ndestroyed by Pius Anyim and others in disobedience to the preservative
\norders of the High Court in Suit No:\u00a0 HSK\/6\/2020, and pleaded with him
\nto stop the destruction.<\/p>\n

The DPO vehemently refused to act or even investigate the matter and
\ntold members of the Ovumnte community that the Police does not interfere
\nin land matters even if properties are being maliciously destroyed and
\nthat they should go to Court and get another injunction.<\/p>\n

When members of the community pressed him, he told them that the matter
\nregarding the land has been taken before a High Court of the FCT by Pius
\nAnyim and that he cannot handle an Abuja matter.<\/p>\n

Mr. Daniel Nwonu’s employment in the Police force and his transfer to
\nIvo LGA is said to have been influenced by Pius Anyim.<\/p>\n

The DPO is also a tenant of Pius Anyim and has been willing tool to be
\nused by Pius Anyim and his thugs in dispossessing indigent land owners
\nof the Ovumnte community.<\/p>\n

Recall that on the morning of 15th March, 2020, the indigent land owners
\nof Ovumnte community engaged in a peaceful protest over Chief Pius
\nAnyim’s use of thugs and the compromised DPO and his policemen to
\nintimidate members of the Ovumnte community. See the pictures as
\nattached and links to the videos.<\/p>\n

The petitioners are praying the Commissioner of Police to prosecute the
\nculprits, including Messers: Anyim Pius Anyim, Chinedu Nicholas Makwe,
\nPeter Ajah, Livinus Ukah, Godfrey Anyim, and others, who are currently
\nviolating the orders of the High Court in Suit No: HSK\/6\/2020 by
\ndestroying their farms including crops, palm trees and other economic
\ntrees, which are their only means of livelihood in line with the
\napplicable criminal laws of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

The petitioners are also praying that unprofessional acts\/conducts of

\nsanctions applied on him and that as a matter of urgency, Daniel Nwonu
\nC. should be removed as DPO of the Ivo Police Division as his continued
\nstay does not guarantee the safety of their lives and properties.<\/p>\n

It is possible that there will be a mass arrest and detention of Ovumnte
\nCommunity members by Pius Anyim in response to this petition against
\nhim.<\/p>\n

The Police for reasons best known to them have preferred to arrest
\npersons who complained against the criminal acts of Pius Anyim and his
\nthugs in respect of the Ovumnte land grab case.<\/p>\n

For examples, Pius Anyim sponsored Police Men from Abuja who unlawfully
\narrested and detained Sir Moses Orji and his wife on 5th February, 2020
\nand further transferred the criminal complaint made by Sir Moses Orji
\nover the destruction of his farm at the Ebonyi State C.I.D to Abuja in
\norder to prevent the continuation of investigation into the criminal
\ncase (See:

\n[1]).<\/p>\n

On 16th June, 2020, Mr. Friday Ovia, a witness who saw Pharmacist
\nChindeu Makwe (a Pharmacist and Director with the National Health
\nInsurance Scheme and a brother of Mr. Livinus Makwe, a Member
\nrepresenting Ohaozara\/Ivo in the Federal House of Representatives)
\nphysically assault Mrs Orji on 12th June, 2020 was arrested on a trumped
\ncharge after an incriminating material was planted in front of his
\nhouse.<\/p>\n

On 17th June, 2020, Mrs Orji herself was arrested and detained by Police
\nmen from Abakaliki after she had complained to the Police about
\nPharmacist Chindeu Makwe’s assault on her person.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
