Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says he is not nursing the<\/div>\n

ambition of running for the office of the President of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike made the clarification when he appeared as a Guest on
\nArise Television.<\/p>\n

The governor said speculations linking him to presidential ambition are
\ndistractions.<\/p>\n

“Right now, I am focusing on delivering the dividends of democracy to
\nthe people of Rivers state.<\/p>\n

“Recall that in 2018 and 2019 when I was supporting my friend Aminu
\nWaziri Tambulwal,\u00a0 it was speculated in the media that I was going to
\nrun with him.\u00a0 That was my first tenure and I have not even completed it
\nand they wanted me to give that away.<\/p>\n

“To clear every speculation, let me state that I am not going to run for
\nthe office of the president of Nigeria for now. I am concentrating on
\ndeveloping Rivers state. I am not a party to anybody saying that the
\nproblems in PDP are about 2023.<\/p>\n

“That can be the problem in APC because it is the ruling party. This the
\nlast tenure of Mr. president and he is going, so people are hustling to
\ntake over from him within his party. PDP has nothing to do with that
\nbecause the way it is now,\u00a0 we are taking over from nothing.<\/p>\n

“Now, I just started my second tenure and you’re talking about the
\npresidency. When that enters anybody’s head then that person will not be
\nable to provide the dividends of democracy to the people.\u00a0 And that is
\nthe problem you see in APC because everybody is thinking of taking over
\nfrom the President instead of concentrating to do their work.<\/p>\n

“They don’t even know the minds of Nigerians. But because of the kind of
\npolitics we have, people feel since Mr.\u00a0 President is leaving, they do
\nnot want his party to lose out.\u00a0 How will someone in an opposition party
\nbegin to contemplate of running for the presidency when I still have
\ntime to provide things for my state,” he said.<\/p>\n

Commenting on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s aspiring to contest
\nfor the presidency again,\u00a0 governor Wike said it is a fundamental right
\nthat cannot be denied.<\/p>\n

He, however, said it is too early to determine who will fly the
\npresidential flag of PDP\u00a0 because the focus is on how to get the party
\nmore organized in order to secure more political seats.<\/p>\n

“I am not interested in who wants to run for now.\u00a0 I am more interested
\nthat PDP should become more organized. Let us get more political seats.
\nWhen the time comes, we will all sit down as a party to decide on who
\nwill fly the flag.<\/p>\n

“Again,\u00a0 let me say, on whether I will support former governor of Rivers
\nState, Chibuike Amaechi if he decides to contest for the presidency as
\nyou have asked. I am a party person,\u00a0 so if he is running on the
\nplatform of PDP for presidency why won’t I support him.\u00a0 I cannot do
\nanti-party at this level to support a non-PDP candidate,” he said.<\/p>\n

On zoning of the PDP presidential ticket to the north,\u00a0 Governor Wike
\nsaid the national executive council of the party has not taken a final
\ndecision.<\/p>\n

“We will come together to resolve issues because we are a family.
\nOutsiders can not do things that will divide us.\u00a0 What we are interested
\nin now is how we can remain united to take over power from APC that has
\nfailed Nigeria.<\/p>\n

“APC should not be allowed to continue to keep the country in its
\npresent calamitous state.\u00a0 We want to take over to move Nigeria
\nforward”, he added.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
