{"id":74835,"date":"2020-07-13T19:28:24","date_gmt":"2020-07-13T18:28:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=74835"},"modified":"2020-07-13T19:28:24","modified_gmt":"2020-07-13T18:28:24","slug":"edo-2020-obaseki-receives-n600m-security-vote-gives-police-just-n5m-monthly-ize-iyamu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/edo-2020-obaseki-receives-n600m-security-vote-gives-police-just-n5m-monthly-ize-iyamu\/","title":{"rendered":"Edo 2020: Obaseki Receives N600m Security Vote, Gives Police Just N5m monthly \u2013 Ize Iyamu"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div class=\"nH\">\n<div class=\"nH\">\n<div class=\"nH bkL\">\n<div class=\"no\">\n<div class=\"nH bkK nn\">\n<div class=\"nH\">\n<div class=\"nH\">\n<div class=\"nH ar4 z\">\n<div class=\"aeI\">\n<div class=\"AO\">\n<div id=\":3\" class=\"Tm aeJ\">\n<div id=\":1\" class=\"aeF\">\n<div class=\"nH\">\n<div class=\"nH\" role=\"main\">\n<div class=\"nH g\">The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Edo<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"nH nn\">\n<div class=\"no\">\n<div class=\"nH bAw nn it\">\n<div class=\"brC-dA-I-Jw\" role=\"navigation\" aria-label=\"Toggle side panel\">\n<div class=\"aT5-aOt-I brC-dA-I aT5-aOt-I-Jp\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"true\" aria-label=\"Show side panel\">\n<div class=\"aT5-aOt-I-JX-atM\">\n<p>State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has said that the current administration<br \/>\nof Governor Obaseki receives over N600m monthly as security vote but<br \/>\ngives the police a paltry N5m.<\/p>\n<p>This, he revealed during a live broadcast on his Facebook page on<br \/>\nMonday, marking the commencement of an announced weekly online<br \/>\nengagement which, according to his Campaign Organization, is part of the<br \/>\nparty&#8217;s adaptations to directly converse with the people on safe<br \/>\nplatforms in line with health regulations and INEC&#8217;s guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to a question about how he would tackle security challenges<br \/>\nin the state if elected, the governor pledged to dedicate more resources<br \/>\nto combatting insecurity and queried the present administration&#8217;s<br \/>\nsincerity to securing lives and property.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The present government has not been able to show any serious commitment<br \/>\nto the security funding of the state. Every month, the governor collects<br \/>\nover N600 million as security vote and gives the police N5 million. That<br \/>\ndoes not show commitment to security. N5m is not even enough to fuel<br \/>\nvehicles&#8221;, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ize-Iyamu further expressed concerns about how Edo seems to be the only<br \/>\nstate in the South-South that has not made adequate investments in<br \/>\ntechnology which can be used to combat crime.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In this age, what is our investment in technology? Edo state might be<br \/>\nthe only state in the South-South that does not have trackers that can<br \/>\nbe used to trace kidnappers. The government must show sincerity in<br \/>\ncombating crime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the abandoned Water Storm Project, Ize-Iyamu stated his<br \/>\ncommitment to ensuring its completion. He also expressed surprise that<br \/>\nObaseki, whose company, Afri Invest, got a large commission from the<br \/>\nproject, chose to not complete it when he became governor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The water storm project cannot be abandoned. I didn&#8217;t initiate it, but<br \/>\nwe must commend those who planned it. Even four years ago when I was<br \/>\ncontesting, I commended the foresight because flooding is a major<br \/>\nchallenge in Benin.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To abandon the project the way it has been abandoned is imprudent and<br \/>\nwicked, especially coming from a governor that was part of its<br \/>\nconception. Afri Invest was involved in the financing of the water storm<br \/>\nproject and got a huge commission form it.
