\nThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the delay by the Federal
\nGovernment to arraign the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and
\nFinancial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, over allegations of
\nfraud is raising public apprehensions over the integrity of the fight
\nagainst corruption in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

According to a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, “the party said
\nthe delay is heightening suspicion in the public space over alleged
\nattempt to give Magu a soft landing in order to cover up for certain top
\nofficials of the Buhari administration as well as some leaders of the
\nAll Progressives Congress (APC) alleged to have been indicted by the
\nsuspended EFCC chairman, in the course of his investigation by the
\nPresidential Panel.<\/p>\n

“The PDP\u2019s position is predicated on conflicting reports on the status
\nof the processes related to Magu\u2019s on-going investigations and the
\ndirection of the Federal Government on the matter.<\/p>\n

“Our party holds that where there are no undesirable underhand dealings,
\nany government that is committed to the fight against corruption, in
\nsuch a manner that the Buhari Presidency wants the world to believe it
\ndoes, should have since perfected its processes and arraign the
\nsuspended EFCC acting Chairman in court, particularly with the weight of
\nallegations and revelations unearthed at the Presidential panel.<\/p>\n

“The fact is that the allegations of fraud including alleged stealing of
\nbillions of naira recovered by the EFCC among other accusations, which
\nalso include the alleged transfer of stolen money to certain government
\nofficials, are already in the public domain.<\/p>\n

“The expectation of Nigerians, therefore, is for the Federal Government
\nto immediately arraign Magu before a court of competent jurisdiction and
\nprosecute him in line with the dictates of our laws.<\/p>\n

“Nigerians are apprehensive that the EFCC investigation might go the way
\nof the huge cover-up in the handling of cases of unbridled treasury
\nlooting in the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Federal
\nInland Revenue Services (FIRS), the National Health Insurance Scheme
\n(NHIS) among others where indicted officials were given a pat on the
\nwrist without prosecution.<\/p>\n

“Our party charges the Buhari Presidency to note that the world is
\nwatching the handling of the EFCC fraud case with keen interest. The
\nFederal Government should, therefore, take immediate steps to arraign
\nMagu and all those indicted in the matter before a court of competent
\njurisdiction without any further delay.”<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
