…Projects’ll drive digital economy, says Danbatta<\/p>\n
The Kaduna Emergency Communication Centre (ECC) built by the Nigerian
\nCommunications Commission (NCC), alongside five Information Technology
\nprojects by other agencies under the Ministry Communications and Digital
\nEconomy have been commissioned by the Hon. Minister Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim
\nPantami.<\/p>\n
The NCC’s ECC project, which makes it possible for people of Kaduna and
\nenvirons to dial 112 Emergency Number to get help during emergencies
\nfrom appropriate emergency response agencies, is aimed at supporting the
\nFederal Government agenda of enhancing the security of lives and
\nproperty in the country.<\/p>\n
NCC had built ECC in each of the 36 states of the federation and the
\nFCT. Nineteen of the ECC have been activated while efforts are ongoing
\nto extend it to other states.<\/p>\n
The Minister also commissioned the Tertiary Institution Knowledge Centre
\n(TIKC) in Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo executed by the Universal
\nService Provision Fund (USPF) of NCC.\u00a0 Three other projects by the
\nNational Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), IT Community
\nCentre in Katsina and IT Hub each in Ahmadu Bello University (ABU),
\nZaria Main Campus, Kaduna and the University of Lagos, were also
\ncommissioned.<\/p>\n
The sixth project commissioned was the opening of Nigeria Communication
\nSatellite (NIGCOMSAT)’s Northwest Regional Office in Kaduna.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the virtual commissioning of the projects, which took
\nplace at the NCC’s Communications and Digital Economy Complex, Mbora
\nDistrict, Abuja on Thursday, July 23, 2020 and attended by all heads of
\nagencies under the ministry, Pantami said the projects were all
\nconnected to the country’s digital economy drive, as contained in the
\nNational Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) unveiled by the
\nPresident in November last year.<\/p>\n
According to him, “these projects are connected to some of the pillars
\nof the NDEPS, especially with respect to developmental regulation,
\ndigital literacy and skills, solid infrastructure, among others,” urging
\nNigerians, who are the ultimate beneficiaries of the projects, to take
\nadvantage of the opportunities.<\/p>\n
He added that he would continue to work with other ministries,
\ndepartments and parastatals of government to ensure teething challenges
\nfacing ICT infrastructure deployment in the country are addressed in
\nother to deepen digital economy.<\/p>\n
Governor of Borno State and Chairman of the occasion, Babagana Zulum; as
\nwell as Hon. Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab
\nShamsuna and her counterpart in the Ministry of Works and Housing,
\nBabatunde Fashola who were guests of honour commended the ministry and
\nits agencies for expanding the footprint of digital economy across the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, and
\nother heads of agencies under the Ministry, have commended the Minister
\nfor promoting synergy among the agencies under his supervision.<\/p>\n
According to Danbatta, “the projects will help in leading the country
\ninto a truly- digital economy.”<\/p>\n
He restated the Commission’s commitment to ensure a robust broadband
\ninfrastructure in the country, to support government’s initiatives aimed
\nat accelerating the implementation of National Digital Economy Policy
\nand Strategy.<\/p>\n
