{"id":75121,"date":"2020-07-29T00:20:09","date_gmt":"2020-07-28T23:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=75121"},"modified":"2020-07-29T00:20:09","modified_gmt":"2020-07-28T23:20:09","slug":"enugu-state-government-reviews-2020-budget-from-n169bn-to-146bn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/enugu-state-government-reviews-2020-budget-from-n169bn-to-146bn\/","title":{"rendered":"Enugu State Government reviews 2020 Budget from N169bn to 146bn"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m2794942272587251661\" class=\"mail-message \">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">The Enugu State Government has reviewed downwards the 2020 budget of<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"m3157463445182560288\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">N169.5 billion to N146.4 billion due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the difference represents<br \/>\n13.67 per cent.<br \/>\nThe state Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Dr. David Ugwunta made<br \/>\nthis known during the budget review in Enugu on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Ugwunta said that the recurrent revenue was reduced from N100.8 billion<br \/>\nto N99.536 billion.<br \/>\nHe stated that the recurrent expenditure was previously N68.790 billion<br \/>\nbefore the review but was slightly increased to N69.790 billion which<br \/>\nrepresented 1.45 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On the capital expenditure, there is a reduction from N100.767 billion<br \/>\nto N76. 584 million at 24 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dIn all, the state budget size before the review was N169.557 billion<br \/>\nbut reduced to N146, 584 billion at 13.67 percent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Declaring the review open, the State Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecilia<br \/>\nEzeilo, explained that the downward review of the 2020 budget was due to<br \/>\nthe downfall of the country\u2019s economy caused by the coronavirus<br \/>\npandemic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Ezeilo urged the participants to contribute to the review of the budget<br \/>\nas they were mostly the targeted audience.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Planning,<br \/>\nMr Casmir Ugwu noted that the state achieved a lot in 2019 despite<br \/>\ndistractions from political activities.<\/p>\n<p>Ugwu posited that the 2020 budget needed to be reviewed owing to the<br \/>\nchallenges facing the state and the country at large.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThis year has been hampered by the ravaging pandemic known as<br \/>\nCoronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dIt hit the nation\u2019s economy hard and this is because the oil which is<br \/>\nthe largest economic base of the country went down,\u201d Ugwu said.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the state had achieved a lot in the midst of the pandemic<br \/>\nand the economic downturn.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Enugu State Government has reviewed downwards the 2020 budget of N169.5 billion to N146.4 billion due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
