The bereaved family of late Chike Okoye of Urueze Alor village, Ogidi,<\/div>\n
\n
Idemily North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has demanded
\njustice over the untimely death of their son.<\/p>\n

Recall that Chike’s death resulted in protest, coinciding with this
\nyear’s annual Nwafor festival of the Ogidi community.<\/p>\n

Chile allegedly died in a bid to evade arrest when the police and local
\nvigilante operatives stormed his house to effect his arrest on July 22,
\n2020 night.<\/p>\n

The police invasion of the deceased home and others was not unconnected
\nwith the alleged Ogbor land dispute, between the Uruezealor Village and
\nthe traditional ruler of Ogidi, Igwe Pharmacist Alex Onyido.<\/p>\n

This disclosure was made known by the Chairman of the village, Mr Obide
\nBenedict who said he was among those to be arrested.<\/p>\n

The family has appealed to Gov. Willie Obiano, Commissioner of Police,
\nMr John Abang, Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu, President
\nMohammadu Buhari, and International community to come to their rescue.<\/p>\n

The elder brother to the deceased and first son of the Okoye’s, Mr
\nKinsley Okoye, flanked by a most junior brother, Stanley Okoye and wife
\nof the deceased, Mrs Ebele Okoye, said that it was a sympathetic death.<\/p>\n

“My passionate appeal or rather my humble prayer is that I am calling on
\nthe Commissioner of Police, Gov. Willie Obiano, IGP, President Mohammadu
\nBuhari, and the whole world to come to our rescue.<\/p>\n

“We demand justice for the deliberate murder of our brother, Late Chike
\nOkoye on the night of 22nd July 2020.<\/p>\n

“These persons should ensure we get justice for the deliberate murder of
\nmy immediate junior brother who was not suffering from anything prior to
\nhis untimely death.”<\/p>\n

“All these terminal diseases that include, asthma, do not run in our
\nfamily,” Kingsley said<\/p>\n

This problem started when the monarch locked up the chairman of
\nUruezealor village, Mr Obide Benedict at Ogidi Police station over Ogbor
\nland issue because the monarch was having a running battle with the
\nvillagers over the land”.<\/p>\n

“So my late brother, Chike was among those who went for his bail and as
\nan eloquent speaker, after speaking on behalf of the villagers, the DPO
\nreleased him which did not go down well with the monarch.<\/p>\n

“He started arresting all those who he felt were out to stop his
\nencroachment on the Ogbor land and about five of such people were
\narrested and brought to his palace by the police.<\/p>\n

“When they came to effect the arrest of my late brother, he wanted to
\nevade the arrest and they held him and on the process, he was said to
\nhave been pushed down from the storey building and died”.<\/p>\n

“They then abandoned him in the pool of his blood and left with the
\nconvoy of vehicles they came with”.<\/p>\n

Wife to the dead, Mrs Ebele Okoye said that, “I saw all that happened,
\nhow they killed my husband.<\/p>\n

“I was with him when his phone rang and he picked it and the caller told
\nhim that police have arrested Obinna Agbata at Ilo Agbata. He then came
\noutside and I was watching him from upstairs and I advised him to come
\nupstairs and he told me he was coming.<\/p>\n

Suddenly about five vehicles pulled to the front of our house, and
\npolicemen and vigilante men saw him and as they rushed to arrest him he
\nran upstairs and they pursued and arrested him in anger that he ran
\naway.<\/p>\n

“They pushed him and he fell from the one- storey building and blood
\nstarted gushing out from his mouth, nose and all over his body. The
\nsecurity operatives on seeing that he was dying, abandoned him and
\nquickly left and he was taken to Iyi-Enu hospital where he gave up the
\nghost.<\/p>\n

“I want justice done in this case, let the perpetrators be brought to
\nbook, nobody is above the law. They have made me to become a widow at
\nthis early stage and the God I serve will not let them go scot-free.<\/p>\n

“Gov. Willie Obiano, IGP, and President Mohammadu Buhari please ensure
\nthat the perpetrators are made to face the wrath of the law,” she said.<\/p>\n

In his own appeal, the junior brother to the deceased, Stanley Okoye,
\npleaded that “all the police and vigilante operatives that came to
\narrest him and their sponsors should be brought to book to serve as a
\ndeterrent to would-be future offenders”<\/p>\n

“Why did the police that came to pick him to abandon him, because he was
\ndying and they ran away after killing him to be free from the atrocity
\nbut law of retrogressive justice will not allow they to be free if they
\nescape human law. ###<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
