Rivers State Governor,\u00a0 Nyesom Ezenwo Wike as expressed surprise that
\nthe leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC)\u00a0 will support its
\ncandidate in the Edo State governorship election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu
\ndespite the weighty allegations against him.<\/p>\n

Speaking as Guest on a Live Television Programme,\u00a0 Governor Wike said it
\nis difficult to contemplate that the leadership of APC is still standing
\nwith Osagie Ize-Iyamu to canvass votes for him.<\/p>\n

He said anybody with conscience and truly loves democracy cannot be
\nproud to support a man who is facing corruption charges of the Economic
\nand Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC).<\/p>\n

“President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s came to fight corruption.
\nBut the APC candidate is facing corruption charges. Except they are
\nsaying he was charged before because he was of the Peoples Democratic
\nParty (PDP) then.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think that anybody with conscience, integrity, and love for
\ndemocracy in Nigeria can openly support Ize-Iyamu when the allegations
\nagainst him have not been refuted. If\u00a0 AdamsOshomhole is supporting him
\nnow,\u00a0 then he must apologise to Edo people,\u00a0 tell them that he told a
\nlie about him four years ago.<\/p>\n

“Godfatherism is playing out again.\u00a0 It hampers performance in
\ngovernment and Edo people must rise to stop it, and then other Nigerians
\nwill begin to emulate such courage”, he stated.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the threat of violence during the Edo State election,
\nGovernor Wike wondered why the Nigerian Police have not invited the APC
\ncandidate over the viral video showing his meeting with questionable
\ncharacters described as “lions and tigers of Edo state”.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike who is the chairman, PDP National Campaign Council, noted
\nthat in that viral video, the APC candidate reiterated visiting violence
\non Edo electorate.<\/p>\n

“Violence is both when you issue threats and give directives. In that
\nvideo,\u00a0 he told the boys to move from unit to unit,\u00a0 from ward to ward.
\nThis is a violation of the provisions and guidelines of the Independent
\nNational Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n

“Governor Godwin Obaseki has always preached peace and has urged his
\nsupporters not to retaliate. But when people come to snatch ballot boxes
\nin order to stop you from exercising your fundamental right, certainly,
\nyou will protect your votes.<\/p>\n

“Taking away the mandate of the people is an unforgivable sin.\u00a0 It
\ndenies the people good governance that they seek and should enjoy.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike also spoke about the failure of the Federal Government to
\ntackle the rising insecurity in the country.<\/p>\n

He said suggestions offered by the opposition are rejected because in
\nNigeria everything is politicised.<\/p>\n

The Governor said Nigerians are seeing that APC has failed the country
\nand it is up to them to vote them out at the appropriate time.<\/p>\n

He noted that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has been
\nimmersed in corruption and has turned out to produce Chief Executives
\nand Directors with governorship ambitions.<\/p>\n

Governor Wike said the revision of the 2020 budget of Rivers State,
\nwould not slow down the pace of development.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
