The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the Universal Service
\nProvision Fund (USPF), and three other agencies under the Ministry of
\nCommunications and Digital Economy have continued to implement
\npeople-oriented projects to advance the digital economy agenda of
\nPresident Muhammad Buhari.<\/p>\n

The other agencies are the National Information Technology Development
\nAgency (NITDA), Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT),
\nGalaxy Backbone, and the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).<\/p>\n

Their commitment in this direction was, once again, demonstrated during
\nthe virtual commissioning of 11 new Information and Communications
\nTechnology (ICT) projects implemented by the agencies under the Ministry
\nof Communications and Digital Economy by the Minister, Dr.\u00a0 Isa Ali
\nIbrahim Pantami, in Abuja at the Digital Economy Complex on Tuesday,
\nAugust 11, 2020.<\/p>\n

The projects, which were commissioned virtually across the country by
\nthe Minister include the Emergency Communication Centres (ECC’s) in
\nIlorin, Kwara State, and Calabar, Cross River. Other projects
\ncommissioned include the e-Health\/Data Sharing Centre,\u00a0 Medical College,
\nAbubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; and Virtual\u00a0 Examination
\nCentre, University of Maiduguri,\u00a0 Borno State,\u00a0 all implemented by the
\nNCC.<\/p>\n

Two projects executed by the USPF were also commissioned; they include,
\nthe Tertiary Institution Knowledge Centre (TIKC), Delta State, and
\nSchool Knowledge Centre (SKC) located at Government Day Secondary
\nSchool, Hassan Central, Gombe State. NITDA implemented three projects:
\nthe Information Technology (IT) and Incubation Park, University of
\nAyangba, Kogi State, ICT Capacity Building Centres at the College of
\nEducation, Gumel, Jigawa State and the Federal University of Technology,
\nOwerri, Imo State.<\/p>\n

Also commissioned were the new Neighborhood Post Office\/NIRSAL
\nMicrofinance bank branch, Delta State and the Remodeled National Mail
\nExchange Centre (Mbiama), Ahoada West Local Government Area of River
\nState executed by NIPOST.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the commissioning, Pantami, who noted that over 500 projects
\nhave been executed by agencies under the ministry in the past five
\nyears, said the projects are connected to the tripartite agenda of the
\nPresident focusing on enhancing national security, diversification of
\nthe economy and curbing corruption.<\/p>\n

Pantami stated that the 11 projects are in sync with seven of the eight
\npillars of the country’s National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy
\n(NDEPS) unveiled by the President last year. He thanked the President
\nfor being supportive of the Ministry’s initiative towards addressing
\nextant challenges of vandalism of telecom infrastructure, Right of Way
\n(RoW) issues, among others in order to accelerate broadband penetration
\nto 70 percent as envisaged by the National Broadband Plan (2020-2025).<\/p>\n

Chairman, NCC Governing Board, Prof. Adeolu Akande thanked the Minister
\nfor the visibility he is giving the projects being executed by the
\nagencies under the Ministry. While the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC,
\nProf. Umar Garba Danbatta, reiterated the commitment of the Commission
\ntowards implementing policies and programmes aimed at fast-tracking the
\nadvancement of digital economy vision of the Federal Government.<\/p>\n

The event was well attended by governors and ministers, who were special
\nguests among whom were the Governor of Imo, who was Chairman of the
\noccasion, Governor of Gombe State, Minister of Interior, Minister of
\nState for Education, Minister of State for Mines and Power, as well as
\nthe staff of the Ministry, board members and heads of agencies under the
\nministry, among others. The special guests commended the Minister for
\ncommissioning the important projects and for enhancing synergy between
\nthe Ministry and its agencies.<\/p><\/div>\n
