Mohammadu Buhari has said that the move by President Muhammadu Buhari to
\nsuspend the giving of foreign exchange for food and fertilizer imports,
\nis an action borne out of patriotism.<\/p>\n

The presidential spokesman who was a guest on Channels Television\u2019s
\nSunrise Daily said the President\u2019s motive stems purely from devotion in
\nthe best interest of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cNigerians must give consideration for the fact that the President\u2019s
\ndirective to the CBN is driven by nothing other than a patriotic
\nmotive,\u201d the senior special assistant to the president stated.<\/p>\n

In his quest to boost agriculture in the country, President Buhari\u2019s on
\nThursday directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) not to give foreign
\nexchange for food and fertilizer imports, a move which some have frowned
\nat, arguing that the CBN\u2019s policies should not be imposed by a political
\nauthority.<\/p>\n

Addressing those who hold the view that Buhari\u2019s directive is
\noverreaching, Mr Shehu said, \u201cI am not sure there is anywhere in the
\nworld that the Central Bank is So independent that it will operate as
\nforeign ownership\u201d.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
