The Chairman of Nigeria\u2019s leading engineering construction company,
\nJulius Berger Nigeria Plc, and its Managing Director Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu
\nand Engr. Dr. Lars Richter respectively has in a joint video, celebrated
\nthe nation\u2019s most iconic engineering brand as the company marks its
\ngolden jubilee as a Nigerian registered business corporation.<\/p>\n
The year 2020 marks the 50th Anniversary since Julius Berger\u2019s
\nincorporation as a Nigerian company.<\/p>\n
According to Sunmonu, while the physical celebration has reasonably been
\nput on hold due to the advent, concerns, and effects of the global
\nCOVID-19 pandemic, the company is using the occasion to acknowledge the
\nepoch-making milestone in the company\u2019s history and to reflect on the
\nmeaningful contributions Julius Berger has made to Nigeria\u2019s
\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n
The articulate chairman who strategically started his corporate career
\nas a First Class graduate from the prestigious Unversity of Lagos, and
\nwho also badges the Presidential honours award, Commander of the Order
\nof the Niger, CON, gave particulars to the company\u2019s contributions when
\nhe said that Julius Berger has offered content to the nation\u2019s
\ndevelopment \u201cthrough the construction of durable, long-lasting buildings
\nand critical infrastructure, which serve as the backbone to economic
\ngrowth and daily life\u201d. Sunmonu added that Julius Berger has also
\ncontributed over the past 50 years \u201cto the livelihood of one of the
\nlargest private workforces in the country, by way of secure, long-term
\nemployment and professional development of our staff\u201d. This, he said,
\nwas in addition to the company\u2019s community development initiatives
\n\u201cresulting from [Julius Berger\u2019s] corporate social responsibility
\nactivities in the areas of health, education and youth sports and
\ncritical response measures enacted\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Chairman of Julius Berger, in his message proudly said that for the
\ncompany, no challenge has been too big, and no job has been too complex
\nto accomplish. He said: \u201cJulius Berger has constructed some of Nigeria\u2019s
\nmost iconic structures and demanding engineering feats; project after
\nproject, we have proven ourselves to be a reliable partner equipped with
\nthe technical know-how and organizational edge to deliver quality
\nsolutions\u201d.<\/p>\n
While stating that there is no doubt that the arrival of COVID-19 to
\nNigeria brought on new and unexpected challenges, requiring sacrifices
\nfrom all as well as significant adjustments to our norms, Sunmonu,
\nhowever, confidently added that the disruptive pandemic \u201chas also served
\nas an important reminder of the importance of community and the
\ncentrality of corporate responsibility to our value system as a
\ncompany\u201d.<\/p>\n
Julius Berger\u2019s Managing Director, Engr. Dr. Lars Richter, also in the
\njoint video further reinforced the Chairman\u2019s message saying that \u201cin

\nand social impact institutions\u2026 and to the company\u2019s communities through
\nvarious donations and contributions\u201d.<\/p>\n
In the words of the cerebral Engr. Richter who substantively holds a
\nPh.D. in civil engineering, \u201c\u2026with innovation as a key-value we have
\ncontinued to find creative solutions, remaining quick to adapt in order
\nto keep delivering through remote working, increases in PPE and safety
\nprotocols and the repurposing of resources to promote public health and
\nsupport relief measures\u201d. Richter with palpably inspiring professional
\nand managerial confidence further said that: \u201cJulius Berger at 50,
\ncelebrates not only the past five decades of excellence achieved, but in

Richter also used the occasion to celebrate the company\u2019s dedicated
\nstaff, whom he described as\u00a0 \u201cthe core to [Julius Berger\u2019s] continued
\nsuccess\u201d. It would be recalled that Richter, at the company\u2019s AGM in
\nJune, had equated the necessity to save the jobs and means of livelihood
\nof all Julius Berger\u2019s workers with their right to protected and
\nsustainable good health. Richter in the 50th anniversary joint video
\nwith the company\u2019s Chairman also paid warm tribute to all of the
\ncompany\u2019s partners, clients, host communities as well as to the
\ncompany\u2019s faithful shareholders.<\/p>\n
