Nigeria\u2019s former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, will not stop amazing Nigerians! In\u00a0yet another in the series of\u00a0what could be described as\u00a0\u2018speaking truth to power\u2019<\/em>, Obasanjo\u00a0recently\u00a0berated the Muhammadu Buhari-led\u00a0administration\u00a0for mismanaging the country\u2019s diversity.\u00a0According to him,\u00a0\u201cold fault lines that were disappearing have opened up in greater fissures and with drums of hatred, disintegration and separation and accompanying choruses being heard loud and clear almost everywhere.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Well,\u00a0Obasanjo may, perhaps, have made more than enough enemies – in and outside this country \u2013 for himself, it will be unwise to ignore the \u2018weighty message\u2019 bothering on nation building and survival, which he has brought up at this critical time of our national existence. To begin with, we can\u2019t deny the fact that\u00a0Nigeria, as we speak,\u00a0is\u00a0bleeding, and in need of urgent and all-encompassing attention!\u00a0As a matter of fact, the whole country would have been adjudged\u00a0dim-witted\u00a0if wise counsels\u00a0like the one in discourse\u00a0are discarded simply because the bearer of the counsel is\u00a0a certified rogue.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Looking at the merits of\u00a0his arguments,\u00a0have Obasanjo\u2019s accusers realized that those issues he raised can\u00a0be supported by true empirical facts,\u00a0which have\u00a0nothing to do with sentiments?\u00a0For\u00a0example,\u00a0if\u00a0the former president\u00a0said that\u00a0Nigeria\u00a0\u201cis<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>fast drifting to<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>a failed<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>state\u201d<\/em>, is she not, already?\u00a0If she is not\u00a0at the moment, is she not\u00a0speedily\u00a0on her way towards becoming\u00a0a pariah state?\u00a0If\u00a0he\u00a0said\u00a0that\u00a0the country\u2019s\u00a0political actors have raped democracy, has it not been raped?\u00a0If\u00a0OBJ, as he is fondly called,\u00a0described\u00a0dear country\u00a0as\u00a0\u201cbecoming a basket case and poverty capital of the world\u201d<\/em>, for God\u2019s sake,\u00a0isn\u2019t the picture on ground\u00a0looking even\u00a0gloomier?\u00a0Is\u00a0Nigeria\u00a0not\u00a0currently seated, comfortably, as\u00a0the 6th<\/sup>\u00a0miserable,\u00a0and the 3rd <\/sup>poorest nation on earth? Is she not\u00a0in bottom 10\u00a0in child flourishing,\u00a0of course,\u00a0below Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and South Sudan? On the\u00a0Global\u00a0Corruption\u00a0Index,\u00a0is\u00a0she\u00a0not146th<\/sup>?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In a country that is deeply buried under the\u00a0rubbles of\u00a0COVID-19,\u00a0and\u00a0inflation rate\u00a0is currently at 13.22%, the highest jump since October 2016;\u00a0where bread can no longer be regarded as the staple food of the common man; and,\u00a0where fuel price and electricity tariff\u00a0have moved from where they were to where they ought not to have been; ditto for\u00a0Value Added Tax<\/em>\u00a0(VAT), the odds are starkly against the government.\u00a0For a government that is said to have lost 65% of its national revenue,\u00a0these are the issues to think about, neither\u00a0claptraps\u00a0about the messenger,\u00a0nor\u00a0motion-without-movement, medicine-after-death,\u00a0dead-on-arrivalassurances\u00a0that can\u2019t\u00a0assuage the anger and frustrations of the people.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Matter-of-factly speaking, it is not enough to identify problems or look at the solution from a grandiose, political end. Hence, the philosophy of what works! Yes, what Nigeria needs at a time like this are concerted efforts that can blur political, selfish interests, and subsume everything under national interest! It is only then that Nigeria can survive.\u00a0Whether we like it or not, Obasanjo has\u00a0opened the Pandora box. Let those who have ears hear\u00a0and meditate on\u00a0what\u00a0\u2018Balogun Owu\u2019<\/em>\u00a0has said to the nation!\u00a0That he has\u00a0even\u00a0\u201copened\u00a0his big mouth\u201d\u00a0again is not the issue here.\u00a0Whether\u00a0or not\u00a0he\u00a0was\u00a0once\u00a0found wanting as a former president may neither be too relevant nor have\u00a0significant bearing on what\u2019s on ground.\u00a0His mouth may even be\u00a0too\u00a0small but,\u00a0should the man collapse and die\u00a0today, history will vindicate\u00a0him\u00a0for\u00a0sounding the right alarm,\u00a0forewarning Nigerians of imminent danger.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So, it\u2019s time even the\u00a0\u201cgarrulous and coarsened functionaries and sectarian opportunists\u201d<\/em>dropped their political toga and worked in the national interest.\u00a0But if we think the way out lies in\u00a0myopic,\u00a0sectional paths, then, Nigerians had better go their\u00a0separate ways effortlessly (if that\u2019s possible). The other alternative\u00a0that\u00a0is already looking\u00a0very feasible\u00a0is catastrophe! One can only pray it would\u00a0not get to that!<\/p>\n

Again,\u00a0losing a father and confidant can be emotionally traumatizing.\u00a0That I am, therefore, heartbroken as a result of the passage of my father, Pa Sunday Alaba Komolafe, is to say the least.<\/p>\n

To this end, let me\u00a0seize\u00a0this\u00a0opportunity to\u00a0express\u00a0sincere\u00a0gratitude\u00a0to those, who, through personal calls and condolence messages,\u00a0showed me solidarity and empathized with me during the trying period.\u00a0In this list include:\u00a0Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State,\u00a0Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Governor of Osun State,\u00a0and\u00a0Professor Adebayo Williams.\u00a0Also among them\u00a0are\u00a0\u2018Wole Olanipekun,\u00a0SAN;\u00a0Tola Adeniyi;\u00a0Babafemi Ojudu;\u00a0and\u00a0Victor Ifijeh, Managing Director, Vintage Press Limited.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

However, the most pleasant gesture came from my state governor, Mr.\u00a0Gboyega Oyetola, who was physically present, more or less,\u00a0by representation, using\u00a0Charles\u00a0\u2018Diji\u00a0Akinola, his quick-witted Chief of Staff. The governor, who, majority of the\u00a0good people of Osun believe is on the right path in governance, even with less or low noise,\u00a0yet outstanding achievements, found time to send comforts to my family.\u00a0Mr. Governor,\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0grateful\u00a0sir. With\u00a0your\u00a0current silent revolution of repositioning the state, Nigerians are quite optimistic that, by the end of\u00a0your\u00a0first\u00a0four-year, and second\u00a0tenure,\u00a0Osun would have soared beyond the Next Level, looking forward to our El Dorado!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, who is also from my base, also supported me.\u00a0Bunmi Obeisun, Chairman, Oriade Local Government, Ijebu-Jesa,\u00a0was\u00a0physically present to make sure that the burial passage was\u00a0a success story.<\/p>\n

My thanks also go to His Royal Majesty, Oba Moses Agunsoye, the\u00a0Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa<\/em>and the paramount ruler of Egboroland.
