The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of Colonel DC Bako who was<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

ambushed and killed by Boko Haram on Sunday morning, according to a
\nstatement from the Army.<\/p>\n

The statement signed by Col Ado Isa of the Nigerian Army Public
\nRelations, 7th Division, said the late Colonel had led a patrol to clear
\nBoko Haram terrorists from Sabon\u00a0 Gari-Wajiroko, near Damboa, when his
\nteam was ambushed.<\/p>\n

The statement reads:<\/p>\n

“Operation LAFIYA DOLE wishes to intimate the general public of the
\ndemise of one of our gallant and finest war heroes Col DC Bako.<\/p>\n

“It could be recalled that the professional, gallant senior officer who
\nalways led from the front and a patriotic Nigerian, led a patrol to
\nclear Boko Haram Terrorists from Sabon Gari-Wajiroko axis near Damboa
\nwhen his patrol team entered an ambush at about 10 a.m Sunday 20
\nSeptember 2020.<\/p>\n

“Under his able leadership, the troops cleared the ambush resulting to
\nthe killing of scores of terrorists and recovery of weapons and
\nequipment. Sadly, however, he was wounded in action and immediately
\nevacuated by the Air Task Force Operation LAFIYA DOLE to the 7 Division
\nHospital at Maimalari Cantonment.<\/p>\n

“The late senior officer was recuperating well after a successful
\noperation at the hospital, in good spirit and also said his prayers in
\nthe early hours of this morning before his sad passing on at the
\nhospital.<\/p>\n

“May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest. Ameen. The Chief of
\nArmy Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai on behalf of himself, gallant troops of
\nOperation LAFIYA DOLE and indeed well-meaning Nigerians hereby express
\nhis heartfelt condolences to his esteemed family. We are most grateful
\nfor his contributions and sacrifices to the mother land. May God grant
\neternal rest to the gentle soul of Col DC Bako and the souls of all
\nNigerian Army officers and soldiers who paid the supreme prize in the
\ndefence of our farther land.<\/p>\n
