The Presidency has reacted to the calls by some individuals and
\nsocio-ethnic groups calling for the immediate restructuring of Nigeria,
\nsaying the Buhari administration will not succumb to threats and undue
\npressure over the matter.<\/p>\n

Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on
\nMedia and Publicity, stated this in a statement on Monday morning when
\nhe responded to the renewed agitation in some quarters for the
\nrestructuring of the country.<\/p>\n

General Overseer of Redeemed Church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, and the
\nleadership of some socio-cultural groups including Ohaneze Ndigbo and
\nAfenifere as well as Niger Delta agitators and individuals have
\nreiterated the call for restructuring of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

According to them, the country needs a home-grown constitution that will
\nusher in new political and economic arrangements based on regional
\nstructures or \u201dthe country will break up\u201d.<\/p>\n

The presidential aide, however, dismissed the recurring threats as
\nunpatriotic outbursts, saying the Buhari administration would not take
\nany decision against the interest of 200 million Nigerians.<\/p>\n

The statement read in part: \u201dThe Presidency responds to the recurring
\nthreats to the corporate existence of the country with factions giving
\nspecific timelines for the President to do one thing or another or else,
\nin their language, \u201cthe nation will break up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201dThis is to warn that such unpatriotic outbursts are both unhelpful and
\nunwarranted as this government will not succumb to threats and take any
\ndecision out of pressure at a time when the nation\u2019s full attention is
\nneeded to deal with the security challenges facing it at a time of the
\nCovid-19 health crisis.<\/p>\n

\u201dRepeat: this administration will not take any decision against the
\ninterests of 200 million Nigerians, who are the President\u2019s first
\nresponsibility under the constitution, out of fear or threats especially
\nin this hour of the health crisis.<\/p>\n

\u201dThe President as an elected leader under this constitution will
\ncontinue to work with patriotic Nigerians, through and in line with the
\nParliamentary processes to finding solutions to structural and other
\nimpediments to the growth and wellbeing of the nation and its people.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
