Osagie Ize-Iyamu, says he will not challenge the outcome of the election
\nat the tribunal.<\/p>\n

Ize-Iyamu made this known in a statement signed by Mr John Mayaki, his
\nDirector of Communication and Media Campaign Organisation on Monday in
\nBenin.<\/p>\n

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this was Ize-Iyamu\u2019s first
\nofficial statement since the Independent National Electoral Commission
\n(INEC) declared Mr Godwin Obaseki of the PDP as the winner of the
\nelection.<\/p>\n

Ize-Iyamu said: \u201cWe must all continue to believe in the electoral
\nprocess as an important part of the democratic system.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt remains the best method of choosing who leads the people, devoid of
\nviolence and avoidable acrimony.\u201d<\/p>\n

He, however, noted that the said election was fraught with some
\nelectoral irregularities, strong enough to warrant challenging its
\noutcome.<\/p>\n

According to him, contrary to orchestrated media reports, the election
\nwas neither free nor fair. There were several episodes of violence,
\nintimidation of voters and falsification of results.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn particular, there were unlawful cancellations of results,
\nparticularly from Urhonigbe South and North in Orhiomwon.<\/p>\n

\u201cResults were falsified from many polling units in Ofunama in Ovia
\nSouth-West, and in parts of Ovia North-East, Owan West, Oredo, Egor,
\nIkpoba-Okha, Esan North-East, Esan West, Esan South-East, and Uhunmwode
\nLocal Government areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cSadly, two persons were killed during the election, while gun-wielding
\nthugs took over collation centres in many locations without the
\nintervention of law-enforcement agents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were also several cases of malfunctioning of card readers, which
\ndisenfranchised duly registered voters, in addition to many cases of
\nunregistered voters voting with pre-purchased voters\u2019 cards not
\ncollected by their actual owners.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese malpractices could easily form the basis to challenge the
\nelection results. We have, however, decided not to commence an election
\npetition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is to avoid further tension in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also mindful that the leadership of our great party, APC and
\nmany well-placed individuals have made pronouncements endorsing the
\nprocess, which we have chosen to respect,\u2019\u2019 Ize-Iyamu said.<\/p>\n

He said that they have consequently,\u00a0 decided to continue with the
\npre-election cases in full exercise of \u201cour legal rights, just as our
\nopponents have considered it their prerogative to also continue with
\ntheir pre-election cases against us\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n

Ize-Iyamu thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his statesmanship and
\nsupport throughout the election campaign.<\/p>\n

He also commended the Oba of Benin, Ewuare 11, and religious leaders for
\ntheir fervent prayers before, during and after the election and APC
\nsupporters including Edo people for their belief in his candidature.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me conclude by noting that our cause to uplift our state using the
\ndemocratic system is a noble mission from which we SHALL NEVER waiver.
