The All Progressive Congress, APC, in Lagos State on Monday urged its
\nmembers to see themselves as one and work collectively for the progress
\nof the party in the state.<\/p>\n
Chief Kaoli Olusanya, Vice-Chairman of the party in Lagos East
\nSenatorial District, made the plea at a meeting with supporters of
\nformer Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, on the platform of the Ambode Movement
\nSupport Group (AMSG) and other aggrieved members.<\/p>\n
At the meeting held in Somolu area of Lagos, Olusanya, who is also the
\nChairman, APC Lagos East Bye-Election Campaign Organisation, said it was
\nnormal for people to be aggrieved in politics.<\/p>\n
According to him, the peaceful resolution of such issues is what really
\nmatters.<\/p>\n
The APC chieftain said the party would not discriminate against any
\nmember and would continue to treat all fairly.<\/p>\n
Olusanya said the party decided to have a meeting with Ambode supporters
\nand other aggrieved party members, so as to listen to their grievances
\nand address them, with a view to building a stronger party.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is important that all members of the party should come together and
\nwork collectively for the progress of our party.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, some people may feel aggrieved, but we will continue to talk to
\nthem so that we can resolve those issues.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Ambode Movement Support Group and other aggrieved members are still
\nmembers of our party; they have not defected to other parties.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, all they need is recognition; all they need is integration; all
\nthey need is for their grievances to be listened to, and that is what we
\nare doing here today.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is necessary to do this as a political party so that our fortunes
\nwill be brighter because everyone has an area of influence; they too
\nhave contributions to make.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmbode has his followers, we have to talk to them with the hope that
\ntogether we can move ahead with the unity of purpose,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Olusanya said it was important that everyone in the party work together
\nahead of the Oct. 31 bye-election for the party to record an emphatic
\nvictory.<\/p>\n
He then urged party members to mobilise residents to vote for the
\nparty\u2019s candidates, Mr. Tokunbo Abiru and Mr. Obafemi Saheed, for the
\nEast Senatorial seat and Kosofe 2 State Constituency seat respectively.<\/p>\n
Commenting, Mr Hakeem Sulaiman, a former Chairman of Bariga Local
\nCouncil Development Area, and a staunch supporter of Ambode\u2019s
\nre-election bid, commended the party leaders for meeting with the
\naggrieved members.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am obviously happy that we are all coming together to move the party
\nforward.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t have any other party; this is the only party that we have. We
\nare grateful for this meeting.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t wish that any party should wrestle power from APC; the party
\nwill continue to govern Lagos State by God\u2019s grace.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are happy that the party is speaking to everybody and carrying
\neverybody along. By God\u2018s grace, APC will emerge victoriously,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He commended the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and
\nGov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for their efforts at building a stronger and
\nmore united party.<\/p>\n
Some supporters of Ambode and other aggrieved party members had, at the
\nmeeting, complained of discrimination due to their supports for Ambode\u2019s
\nre-election bid against the party\u2019s preferred candidate.<\/p>\n
Olusanya promised them that the party would give all members a sense of
\nbelonging.<\/p>\n
