{"id":76189,"date":"2020-10-08T22:41:38","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T21:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=76189"},"modified":"2020-10-08T22:43:46","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T21:43:46","slug":"algon-removes-deputy-national-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/algon-removes-deputy-national-president\/","title":{"rendered":"ALGON removes deputy national president"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m41630\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has relived its Deputy National President Mohammed Soba of his position.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Soba is the\u00a0Chairman Soba Local Governments of Kaduna State.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A statement issued by ALGON Spokesman, Mr. Obiora Orji, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday disclosed that the association appointed\u00a0Jega Shehu as its new Deputy National President to replace Soba.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Orji said that Soba\u2019s removal was\u00a0unanimously\u00a0approved by the association\u2019s National Executive Council (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BOT) at its all-night meeting held on Wednesday in Asaba, Delta State.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He said Soba was removed based on misconduct against the constitutional provisions of ALGON.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Orji said the motion for Soba\u2019s removal at the meeting was raised by\u00a0the Nasarawa State Chapter Chairman of ALGON, Alhaji Aminu Maifata, who is also the Chairman of Lafia LGA.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He added that the motion was seconded by Delta State representative, Mr. Ikpokpo Malik, and the Sokoto State ALGON Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Orji quoted Shehu while taking his oath of office, as pledging to abide by the constitutional provisions and rules of the association.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Orji noted that the meeting attended by representatives from about 32 states deliberated on several national issues bothering on security, economy, education, and other vital matters concerning ALGON.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Sabo, reacting to his removal in a telephone interview with NAN correspondent, said that he was not aware of his removal.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He described his alleged removal as illegal and suspicious, saying they did not have the power to remove him.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cI was elected and if I must be removed the right procedures must be followed as stated in the association\u2019s constitution.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cFor somebody to summon a purported NEC meeting to remove me, there must be a reason for that and I am not aware of that.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cBefore a removal, there must be a ground for a fair hearing.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cIf there is any allegation or accusation to my person or my office, they could have informed me and will answer it,\u201d Soba said.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Soba added that when he is formally informed of his removal he would make his comprehensive response and the position of his local government and state known.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has relived its Deputy National President Mohammed Soba of his position.
