The Federal High Court on Monday adjourned until Dec.7, the trial of a<\/div>\n
\n
member of the Presidential Committee on Procurement of Arms and
\nEquipment in the Armed Forces, Air Commodore Umar Mohammed (Rtd), due to
\nill health.The EFCC arraigned Mohammed on an amended five-count charge bordering on
\nmoney laundering, illegal possession of firearms, and possession of
\nofficial documents without lawful authority in 2016.<\/p>\n

Justice Inyang Ekwo, fixed the date after Mohammed\u2019s counsel, Hassan
\nLiman, SAN, told the court that his client had a surgery and couldn\u2019t
\nsit down now.<\/p>\n

Earlier, EFCC lead prosecution lawyer, Daniel Bwala, told the court that
\nalthough he was ready for trial, but Mohammed absent.<\/p>\n

Bwala added that the defence served him with a letter, claiming the
\nfirst defendant (Mohammed) was ill.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the last date, the court gave us four days to open and close our
\ncase. The first defendant\u2019s lawyer has brought a letter from the
\nhospital that the first defendant was sick.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe case has been in the court for about four years, but the trial has
\nnot commenced,\u201d Bwala said.<\/p>\n

When asked why his client was not in court, Mohammed\u2019s lawyer, Liman,
\nsaid the first defendant had surgery \u201cand cannot even sit down now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Liman prayed the court for a month\u2019s adjournment, hoping that his client
\nwould, by then, be strong enough to stand trial.<\/p>\n

Bwala did not object to Liman\u2019s application for adjournment, following
\nwhich Justice Ekwo adjourned till Dec. 7 for the prosecution to commence
