The Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A. Adamu, NPM, mni has ordered
\nall personnel of the defunct SARS to report at the Force Headquarters,
\nAbuja for debriefing, psychological and medical examination.<\/p>\n
A statement signed by Force Spokesman DCP Frank Mba said “The officers
\nare expected to undergo this process as a prelude to further training
\nand reorientation before being redeployed into mainstream policing
\nduties.<\/p>\n
“The medical examination will be carried out by the newly set-up Police
\nCounselling and Support Unit (PCSU), a Unit, which henceforth shall
\nengage in psychological management, re-orientation and training of
\nofficers of the Force deployed for tactical operations and other duties.<\/p>\n
“The Unit, which is domiciled with the Force Medical Department and
\ncoordinated by the Force Medical Officer, has its membership drawn from
\namongst psychiatrists, psychologists, medics, pastors and imams, Public
\nRelations practitioners, Civil Society and other Human Rights groups
\nwith relevant qualifications and expertise.<\/p>\n
“Meanwhile, the IGP has set up a new Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)
\nTeam that will fill the gaps arising from the dissolution of the defunct
\nSARS.<\/p>\n
“Prospective members of this new team will also undergo a psychological
\nand medical examination to ascertain their fitness and eligibility for
\nthe new assignment.\u00a0 They are to commence training at the different
\nPolice tactical training institutions nationwide, next week.<\/p>\n
“While personnel from the Police Commands in the South-East and the
\nSouth-South will be trained at the Counter-Terrorism College, Nonwa-Tai,
\nRivers State, those from the\u00a0 Police Commands from the North and the
\nSouth-West will be trained at the Police Mobile Force Training College,
\nEnde, Nasarawa State and the Police Mobile Force Training College,
\nIla-Orangun, Osun State, respectively.<\/p>\n
“While reaffirming his irrevocable commitment towards the successful and
\nholistic implementation of the Police reforms, the IGP enjoins members
\nof the public, particularly protesting citizens to exercise restraint
\nand allow measures being put in place to come to fruition and engender a
\nPolice Force that would meet the yearnings and aspirations of the
\ncitizenry.”<\/p>\n
