{"id":76322,"date":"2020-10-15T19:04:16","date_gmt":"2020-10-15T18:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=76322"},"modified":"2020-10-15T19:04:16","modified_gmt":"2020-10-15T18:04:16","slug":"court-adjourns-corruption-trial-of-ize-iyamu-four-others-to-january-14-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/court-adjourns-corruption-trial-of-ize-iyamu-four-others-to-january-14-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Adjourns Corruption Trial of Ize-Iyamu,\u00a0Four Others to\u00a0January 14, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1680639792260922275\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">The money laundering case brought against Pastor Osagie Ize -Iyamu, PDP governorship candidate in Edo State in 2016 election and four others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, was today October 15, 2020 adjourned <a dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"noreferrer\">till January 14, 2021<\/a>by a Federal High Court sitting in Benin City,\u00a0 Edo State.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p><br clear=\"none\" \/>The other four defendants are\u00a0Lucky Imasuen, former deputy governor of Edo State;\u00a0Chief Dan Orbih, former PDP chairman in Edo State; Tony Aziegbemi and Efe Erimuoghae.<br clear=\"none\" \/><br clear=\"none\" \/>At today&#8217;s sitting, counsel to the first defendant, Charles Edosomwan, SAN, informed the court that he has filed a motion challenging its jurisdiction on the grounds that the charge filed against the defendants are based on election matters. According to him, the appropriate court to try electoral matter was the Magistrate Court or High Court of the state. The same argument was canvassed by the counsel to the other defendants.<br clear=\"none\" \/><br clear=\"none\" \/>However, the prosecuting counsel, Francis A.Jirbo countered the argument with the submission that the information before the court is a money laundering charge for which the Federal High Court has exclusive jurisdiction..<br clear=\"none\" \/><br clear=\"none\" \/>After listening to both counsel, Justice M. G. Umar adjourned the case to\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\" rel=\"noreferrer\">January 20, 2021<\/a>\u00a0for ruling.<br clear=\"none\" \/><br clear=\"none\" \/>Pastor Ize-Iyamu and other defendants were first arraigned before Justice P. I.
