Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has condemned<\/div>\n
\n
“reports that security agents are shooting at #EndSARS peaceful
\nprotesters at the Lekki Toll gate, Lagos. This must stop immediately.”<\/p>\n

SERAP said: “Under the Nigerian constitution, 1999 [as amended] and
\nhuman rights treaties to which Nigeria is a state party, the authorities
\nare obligated to respect and protect the right to life and security of
\nthe person, the rights to freedom of expression, association, and
\npeaceful assembly of everyone, including peaceful protesters.”<\/p>\n

“We call on the Nigeria authorities to order a prompt, independent and
\nimpartial inquiry into the reports of the shooting of #EndSARS
\nprotesters at the Lekki Tollgate by security agents, identify suspected
\nperpetrators and ensure that they are brought to justice without delay.”<\/p>\n

“All the victims must be allowed access to justice and effective
\nremedies, including adequate compensation, satisfaction, and the
\nguarantee of non-repetition.”<\/p>\n

“SERAP calls on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to open
\ninvestigations into cases of attacks on peaceful protesters in Nigeria
\nin the context of #EndSARS.”<\/p>\n

“SERAP believes that substantial grounds exist to warrant the
\nintervention of the Prosecutor in this case. Pursuant to the Rome
\nStatute, the Prosecutor has the power to intervene in a situation under
\nthe jurisdiction of the Court if the Security Council or state parties
\nrefer a situation or if the information is provided from other sources
\nsuch as the information that is now publicly available in the country.”<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
