\nThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) charges the Buhari Presidency and the
\nAll Progressives Congress (APC) to take responsibility for the shooting
\nand reported killing of peaceful and unarmed young protesters by
\nmilitary operatives at Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

President Buhari is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces and the
\nbuck stops on his table.<\/p>\n

According to a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, “Our party is
\nhowever shocked at President Buhari’s stance, particularly his inability
\nto demonstrate the capacity for concerned, attentive and proactive
\ngovernance and command structure, while the nation he presides over
\ndangerously slides into anarchy.<\/p>\n

“A well-structured governance response from Mr. President, as the father
\nof the nation, would have calmed frayed nerves and averted the crisis,
\nviolence, deaths, destruction of property and the avoidable loses we are
\nwitnessing today.<\/p>\n

“It is indeed heartrending that our once united, viable, resilient and
\ncohesive nation handed over to President Buhari in 2015 is fast
\ncollapsing in his hands.<\/p>\n

“In countries where presidents are alive to the demands of their
\noffices, the country would not be in turmoil with citizens being
\nmurdered in cold blood as witnessed in our country in the last 48 hours,
\nyet the citizenry cannot find their president or Prime Minister coming
\nout personally to offer consolation, provide direction and give hope.<\/p>\n

“Moreover, the video showing police vans and vehicles belonging to other
\nsecurity agencies bringing in and coordinating armed thugs to attack
\npeaceful protesters in Abuja points to serious complicity in high
\nplaces.<\/p>\n

“The APC and its agents in government circles had kept mute over reports
\nin the public space that they are behind the deployment of the armed
\nthugs to infiltrate peaceful protests and perpetrate acts of violence so
\nas to discredit the demonstration and justify their attacks on
\nprotesters; a development that had led to the escalation of restiveness
\nin various parts of our country.<\/p>\n

“Furthermore, the unexplained dismantling of security cameras and lights
\nat the Lekki Tollgate before military operatives opened fire on peaceful
\nprotesters, further points to high-level conspiracy against Nigerians.<\/p>\n

“Such unleashing of terror against peaceful demonstrators exposes a
\ndangerous recourse to barefaced brutality, violence, and killing to
\nsuppress and subjugate the Nigerian people.<\/p>\n

“Today, under the APC, our streets are stained with the blood of our
\npromising young ones. Our highways have been turned into battlegrounds
\nwhere thugs and security operatives mow down citizens and destroy
\nproperty with reckless abandon.<\/p>\n

“Painfully, every command structure that engenders good governance
\nappears to have collapsed and life is gradually returning to the Hobbes
\n\u201cState of Nature\u201d under a system that has gained notoriety for human
\nrights abuse, killings and deploying of security operatives, thugs,
\nvandals and bandits to assault Nigerians whenever they come out to
\ndemand for good governance.<\/p>\n

“The PDP recalls how, in December 2019, thugs were brought in trailers
\nto unleash violence on Nigerians who were at National Human Rights
\nCommission office in Abuja on peaceful protest against series of human
\nrights abuses in the country.<\/p>\n

“Till today, the APC-led Federal Government has not explained how a
\npolice helicopter was deployed to assault voters in the November 2019
\nKogi state governorship election as well as the deployment of thugs to
\nburn a woman leader, Mrs. Salome Abuh to death.<\/p>\n

“Our party demands that President Buhari speaks out on the sorry state
\nof our nation under his watch and command.<\/p>\n

“His administration has assaulted the foundations of our nationhood and
\nhe should accept responsibility.<\/p>\n

“The PDP condoles with the victims of this ugly situation foisted on the
\nnation by the APC.<\/p>\n

“Nevertheless, our party restates our belief in a stable, united, and
\nindivisible Nigeria and urge all compatriots not to allow the misrule of
\nthe APC to divide or make them lose faith in our nation.<\/p>\n

“The PDP will take necessary steps allowed within our laws and the
\ninternational treaties and laws to protect our citizens and democratic
\norder.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
