The Police Command in Osun, on Tuesday, said it had arrested 87 suspects
\nfor allegedly looting public and private property during the mayhem that
\nattended the EndSARS protests in some parts of the state.<\/p>\n
While parading the suspects at the command\u2019s headquarters in Osogbo, the
\nstate Police Commissioner, Undie Adie, represented by the Deputy
\nCommissioner of Police in charge of CID, Adebola Hamzat, said that some
\nof the looted items had been recovered from them.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe resurgence of #EndSARS protests on Oct. 4 in Lagos had spread to
\nall the 36 states of the federation and the
\nFCT.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is of common knowledge that the erstwhile peaceful #EndSARS protests
\nby the Nigerian youth over the excesses of the Special Anti-Robbery
\nSquad (SARS) had snowballed into brigandage, murder, assault and arson
\nas well as destruction and looting of public and private property.<\/p>\n
\u201cOsun has had her own fair share of these incidents, as attacks were
\ncarried out on public officials and innocent private individuals,
\ndestruction of government and private property and massive looting.<\/p>\n
\u201cA total of 87 suspects were arrested and the looted items are being
\nrecovered, while investigations on their culpability are ongoing,\u201d he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
According to the police commissioner, as soon as investigations are
\nconcluded, the suspects will be arraigned in court.<\/p>\n
He, however, called on the hoodlums, who participated in the massive
\nlooting, to take advantage of the amnesty granted by Gov. Gboyega
\nOyetola and return the looted items in their possession, saying that the
\n72-hour ultimatum given to them would elapse on Oct. 28.<\/p>\n
Adie said that after the expiration of the ultimatum, anyone found with
\nthe looted items would be arrested and charged with armed robbery,
\nconspiracy, brigandage, murder, housebreaking, stealing, receiving
\nstolen property and other sundry offences. (NAN)<\/p>\n
