Policemen in Abia State have called on the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to redeploy the Aba Area Commander, ACP\u00a0\u00a0Kabiru Ibrahim over alleged negligence on his official duties in the Command.<\/p>\n
Policemen under the umbrella of Concerned Police Officers (CPO) in Aba,blamed ACP Ibrahim for the killing of two policemen,\u00a0burning of police stations andproperties during the EndSARS protests in Aba.<\/p>\n
They alleged that due to the Area Commander\u2019s negligence, Police\u00a0Divisionsin the city were taken unawares by the\u00a0protesters as Ibrahim failed to\u00a0gather intelligence on time and mobilize police heads\u00a0in the city.<\/p>\n
They further stated that since after the protest, the Area Commander has failed to address policemen who lost their cars and other personal effects.<\/p>\n
In their words; \u201cThe Area Commander, Kabiru Ibrahim failed to coordinate policemen under his control, and that on the day of the protest; he could not inform Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of the protest on time. Before the protest, he ought to have organized a\u00a0\u00a0show of force exercise with sister security agencies to warn the hoodlums of the readiness of the Police to secure the city.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the Area Commander had informed the DPOs of the protest on time, the DPOs could have ensured that the huge human and materials losses the police incurred in the city could have been highly reduced.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe DPO of Ndiegoro Division, like many DPOs in the city, didn\u2019t know about the protest. The DPO heard some noise in front of the police station and came out to find out what was happening, before you knew it, the protesters went after him, he had to run for about one kilometre on foot, removing his uniform as he did that before some policemen saved him. He could have been killed like the other policemen.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cThe Area Commander has not cared to address the policemen who lost their cars and other properties during the protest, at least give them hope that they would be compensated. He should have done this to boost the morale of the officers. ACP Kabiru Ibrahim is not qualified to serve as Area Commander in a town in the status of Aba. He doesn\u2019t relate or interact with people.\u00a0\u00a0He hardly addresses Policemen. All his DPOs are complaining about his style of policing. We urge the IGP to redeploy him and get an urbane police officer to secure Aba.\u00a0\u00a0Otherwise, criminals would soon take over Aba.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reacting to the allegations, the Area Commander dismissed them as coming from few disgruntled officers who were not in Aba during the protest.<\/p>\n
\u00a0\u201cIt was through my personal efforts that made low the casualty figure as it concerns the police.I also personally ensured the slain policemen were deposited in the morgue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
