The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed concern about the
\non-going clampdown and freezing of bank accounts of some Nigerians for
\nallegedly participating in the #EndSARS protests.<\/p>\n
The party expressed concern in a statement issued by its National
\nPublicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Ologbondiyan said that it was alarmed that bank accounts of some
\nNigerians who participated in \u201cgenuine and peaceful protests\u201d against
\npolice brutality in various parts of the country were being frozen.<\/p>\n
Ologbondiyan said that it was distressing that government officials
\nattempted to justify such action, which he described as a gross
\nviolation of the Nigeria Constitution.<\/p>\n
He said that such action amounted to a deliberate effort to economically
\nsuffocate those Nigerians and their families for calling for good
\ngovernance, respect for the rights of citizens, and an end to police
\nbrutality.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuch action does not engender hope among citizens, especially the
\nyouth,\u201d he said adding that \u201cit rather validates held view that
\ngovernment has already convicted the protesters.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ologbondiyan said it was strange to the PDP how the Federal Government
\ncould be harassing unarmed and harmless citizens who merely embarked on
\nthe civil protest over obvious societal ills, while insurgents and
\nbandits continued to terrorize Nigerians across the country.<\/p>\n
He counseled the Federal Government to immediately stop the clampdown on
\nNigerians especially at the critical time of the nation.<\/p>\n
Ologbondiyan urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to remain calm in
\nthe overall interest of the unity, stability, and good of the nation,
