President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday in Abuja urged the international
\ncommunity and investors to take advantage of the country’s diversity in
\nhuman and natural resources for investment, noting that youth
\ndevelopment, integration, and employment remain a priority for his
\nadministration.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a ceremony to receive the Letters of Credence of the
\nAmbassadors of Belgium, Mauritania, Austria, and Norway at the
\nPresidential Villa, the President said “Nigeria is ready to pursue
\nbroader dialogue, as well as enhance cooperation and collaboration on
\nthe basis of constructive mutual respect and a shared vision for our
\nfuture.”<\/p>\n
He added: “As you may know, Nigeria is an ethnic and culturally diverse
\nsociety with various opportunities which we seek to creatively utilise
\nfor the benefit of our people. We are also a country with a huge
\npopulation that is predominantly youthful.<\/p>\n
“These pose peculiar new challenges of their own. As Nigeria relates
\nwith your countries, it is our expectation that we should leverage the
\nadvantages that can yield positive results in youth development in our
\ncountry.”<\/p>\n
The Ambassadors who presented their Letters of Credence to the President
\nare Mr Daniel Bertrand, Ambassador of Belgium, Mr Amedi Camara,
\nAmbassador of Mauritania, Mr Thomas Schlesinger, Ambassador of Austria
\nand Mr Knut Eiliv Lein, Ambassador of Norway.<\/p>\n
President Buhari said Nigeria enjoys very good bilateral relations with
\nthe respective countries and had collaborated at the multilateral level
\nto achieve targets set by several international conventions and
\ntreaties.<\/p>\n
“Allow me to offer you my sincere congratulations as you commence your
\ndiplomatic duties as defined by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic
\nRelations. As we celebrate its 60th anniversary, next year, it is my
\nhope that you will carry out your respective mandates to improve
\nexisting cordial relations between our countries consistent with the
\nprovisions of this time-honoured convention.”<\/p>\n
The President told the ambassadors that there was a need to enhance the
\nexisting cordial relations in the interest of citizens and countries.<\/p>\n
“Nigeria shares common problems of insecurity, the impact of climate
\nchange, and socio-economic challenges common among nations.
\nNotwithstanding these challenges, efforts are being made to sustain our
\nposition to overcome these difficulties. I invite you to partner with us
\nto address these challenges.<\/p>\n
“As a global family, we are impacted by several other common challenges
\nlike terrorism, insurgency, climate change, population explosion, human
\ntrafficking, corruption, poverty, and now the global health pandemic
\nwhich Coronavirus represents considering its mayhem across the world.”<\/p>\n
The President said the challenges underscore the need for the
\ninternational community to make concerted efforts at resolving them in
\nthe interest of common humanity.<\/p>\n
“The survival of humanity depends on our efforts to enhance our
\ncooperation to attain the goals of global peace and economic
\nprosperity.”<\/p>\n
In his remark, on behalf of others, the Ambassador of Belgium thanked
\nthe President for making out time to receive the Letters of Credence in
\nspite of the peculiar situation created by the COVID-19, assuring that
\nall the ambassadors will make the most of the opportunity to enhance
\nrelations in economics, commerce, and socio-cultural issues.<\/p>\n
“Your Excellency, we are at your disposal to strengthen and narrow the
\nties, not only in economic and commercial issues but also in cultural
\nterms,” he added.<\/p>\n
