Godwin Obaseki says he will use his second term in office to bring about<\/div>\n
\n
a technology-driven state which level of growth and development will
\nhelp reduce the level of poverty and want among Edo people<\/p>\n

Obaseki said this as he took the oath of office for his second term as
\ngovernor of Edo on Thursday, the highpoint of the high-stakes election
\nhe won in September.<\/p>\n

The Chief Judge of Edo, Mrs. Esther Edigin, administered the oath on the
\ngovernor and the Deputy Governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu.<\/p>\n

The governor said that he used his first term to seek a partnership that
\nwould drive the economy of the state through numerous memoranda of
\nagreements.<\/p>\n

He said that his second term would be used to consolidate and bring
\nabout a better Edo for the benefit of the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have used the last four years to change how government works with
\nthe introduction of memoranda of understanding and memoranda of
\nagreement with organisations and communities, which assist the
\ngovernment in allocating responsibilities and relating with the people
\nand other partners in development.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur government is committed to working for every Edo State citizen and
\nlifting their wellbeing by ensuring that Edo State grows into a globally
\ncompetitive economy enabled by technology for the benefit of all her
\ncitizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore 2025, Edo State will develop and grow its digital economy and
\noperate a digital government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe digital government we are building will plug into the new digital
\nage and would ensure we deliver better and efficient services to all our
\ncitizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn realising our vision as reflected in the MEGA manifesto, we will
\nfocus on the following priorities areas:<\/p>\n

\u201cGrow our Social Sector by constantly improving our Education,
\nHealthcare System, provision of social security and safety nets, caring
\nfor the vulnerable and the disadvantaged in our state.<\/p>\n

\u201cRapidly develop our critical energy, housing, digital, and road
\ninfrastructure, which provides a framework to drive inclusive growth.<\/p>\n

\u201cBuild the Economy and drive Industrialization, Trade, and Investment,
\nto solidify our state\u2019s status as the choice investment destination in
\nthe country.<\/p>\n

\u201cPreserve the Environment and Public Utilities, to make our state more
\nfunctional and adapt to the challenges of climate change and rural-urban
\nmigration.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur major drive will be the clean and green Edo initiative and
\nsustaining our campaign to plant trees and restore the forest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the sectors he also planned to invest in include:<\/p>\n

\u201cExploiting agriculture and natural resources, by tapping our God-given
\nresources to provide food security, create wealth, and improve the
\nlivelihoods of our people.<\/p>\n

\u201cStrengthen Public Service, Public Finance and Public Revenue, by
\nrecalibrating our workforce for the future world of work.<\/p>\n

\u201cSustain Law, Judiciary, and Legal Reforms, to ensure justice, equity
\nand fairness in private and public dealings.<\/p>\n

\u201cPromote Arts and Culture, to preserve the past, document the present,
\nenvision the future, and use our arts and culture as a springboard to
\ndevelop tourism.<\/p>\n

\u201cRevamp the Transport sector, by developing transport infrastructure to
\na more modern and affordable system.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Dignitaries at the ceremony included the Governor of Rivers, Mr Nyesom
\nWike, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State,
\nGov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa.<\/p>\n

Mr Dan Orbih, the Vice-Chairman of the PDP, South-South, and a former
\nMinister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, were also in attendance.<\/p>\n

Others are PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus, former Chief of Staff to
\nPresident Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Mike Ogiadome, the Senator representing
\nEdo Central District, Mr Cliford Ordia, Sen. Matthew Urhohide and a PDP
