{"id":76920,"date":"2020-11-18T16:36:28","date_gmt":"2020-11-18T15:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=76920"},"modified":"2020-11-18T16:36:28","modified_gmt":"2020-11-18T15:36:28","slug":"alleged-n450m-scam-ex-gov-shinkafis-statement-voluntary-efcc-witness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/alleged-n450m-scam-ex-gov-shinkafis-statement-voluntary-efcc-witness\/","title":{"rendered":"Alleged N450m Scam:\u00a0Ex- Gov Shinkafi\u2019s Statement Voluntary- EFCC Witness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>T<span lang=\"en-NG\">he Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">presented its 6th witness in the ongoing trial of a former Governor of Zamfara State<\/span>,\u00a0<span lang=\"en-NG\">Mahmoud Aliyu Shinkafi and others before Justice Fatima Aminu of the Federal High Court Gusau, Zamfara State.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-NG\">The witness<\/span>,<span lang=\"en-NG\">\u00a0Tasiu Abubakar<\/span>,<span lang=\"en-NG\">\u00a0an operative of the Commission, was led in evidence by prosecution counsel, Musa Isah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-NG\">In his evidence, Abubakar revealed that he first came in contact with the defendants sometime in May 2016 when the Kano Zonal Office of the Commission received an investigation briefing from Headquarters alleging that\u00a0\u00a0a former minister of petroleum resources Di<\/span>e<span lang=\"en-NG\">zani Alison-Madueke had warehoused the sum of ($115,000,000) One Hundred and Fifteen Million Dollars in a new generation bank and that same were distributed for 2015 general election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-NG\">Abubakar added that \u201cwe therefore commenced investigation and it was discovered\u00a0<\/span>that\u00a0<span lang=\"en-NG\">the third defendant Aminu Ahmed Nahuche<\/span>,<span lang=\"en-NG\">\u00a0fourth defendant Ibrahim Mallaha\u00a0<\/span>(<span lang=\"en-NG\">who is now late<\/span>)<span lang=\"en-NG\">signed and collected the sum N450,000,000 (Four Hundred and Fifty Million Naira) from Gusau Branch of Fidelity Bank and took same to the house of the first defendant<\/span>,<span lang=\"en-NG\">\u00a0Ambassador Bashir Yuguda who revealed to us how the money was shared for the PDP presidential election in 2015.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-NG\">The witness further revealed how he obtained the statements of the second defendant Mahmoud Aliyu Shinkafi on three occasions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-NG\">\u201cI can recall on the 19th and\u00a0\u00a023rd of May 2016, I witnessed and cautioned the second defendant and his statement was obtained. On 21 June 2016 I also witnessed and cautioned the second defendant and his statement was also recorded.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-NG\">Prosecution counsel Isah\u00a0\u00a0presented the statements<\/span>\u00a0to the witness\u00a0\u00a0who identified the documents<span lang=\"en-NG\">\u00a0as they h<\/span>ad<span lang=\"en-NG\">\u00a0his signature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-NG\">Consequently,\u00a0<\/span>Isah<span lang=\"en-NG\">\u00a0sought to tender the statements\u00a0<\/span>but c<span lang=\"en-NG\">ounsel representing the second defendant, Musa I Labaran objected to the admissibility of the statements taken\u00a0<a dir=\"ltr\" data-mt-detrack-inspected=\"true\" data-mt-detrack-attachment-inspected=\"true\">on 23rd of May<\/a>\u00a0and 21st of June 2016. He argued that the said statements were obtained under duress and urged the court to order\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<span lang=\"en-NG\">Trial within Trial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-NG\">Prosecution counse<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">\u00a0<\/span>did not oppose the application.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-NG\">During the trial within trial, the witness disclosed that the statement of 23rd of May, 2016 was obtained after the second defendant met with the first defendant who helped him recall how he collected the money from him (1st defendant)<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">in March 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Regarding<span lang=\"en-NG\">\u00a0the statement of 21st June, 2016 the witness revealed that, after the second defendant\u2019s statement of May 23rd, 2016, the second defendant left and later came back on the 21st of June, 2016 with a bank draft for the sum of (N6,000,000) Six Million Naira only in favor of the EFCC recovery account.
