Yakubu says he considers his reappointment for a second term a<\/p>\n

privilege.<\/p>\n

President Muhammad conducted the swearing-in at the State House in<\/div>\n

Abuja, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Buhari reappointed Yakubu for another five-year term in October 2020. He was confirmed by the<\/p>\n

senate on December 1, 2020.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The INEC boss said the commission, under his leadership, will continue<\/p>\n

to fulfill its mandate in ensuring credible elections in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cWe have clearly demonstrated in recent elections that elections are<\/p>\n

getting better and better and elections will continue to get better and<\/p>\n

better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a big responsibility. It is history. No Nigerian has been so<\/p>\n

privileged to serve as chairman of the Independent National Electoral<\/p>\n

Commission twice.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it is a responsibility I am going to discharge consistent with the<\/p>\n

oath of office I took.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Born in May 1962, Yakubu graduated with a first-class degree in history<\/p>\n

from the University of Sokoto \u2014 now Usmanu Danfodiyo University \u2014 in<\/p>\n

1985.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The INEC chairman is a professor of political history and international<\/p>\n

studies. He was appointed head of the commission in 2015 after the<\/p>\n

expiration of the tenure of Attahiru Jega, former INEC chairman.<\/p>\n
