Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested two (2) members of
\na trans-national kidnap syndicate involved in the kidnap of an American
\nCitizen, Philippe Nathan Walton, on 28th October 2020 at his farm in
\nMasalata Village, Republic of Niger.<\/p>\n

The suspects, Aliyu Abdullahi ‘m’ 21yrs a.k.a Mallam and Aliyu Umaru ‘m’
\n23yrs a.k.a Kwatte Kusu, both from Sokoto State, were arrested on 25th
\nNovember 2020, according to a statement signed by Force Spokesman, DCP
\nFrank Mba.<\/p>\n

The two (2) suspects – members of a 15-man kidnap gang of
\nNigerian\/Nigerien extraction, led by Barte Dan Alhaji and Dan Buda –
\nwere arrested following a special intelligence-led operation aimed at
\narresting the criminal gang, disrupting and halting other criminal
\nactivities by them.<\/p>\n

Investigations by the Intelligence Response Team reveal that the gang
\nwas plotting other abductions to avenge the death of their cohorts – 4
\nNigeriens and 2 Nigerians who died during the rescue operations.<\/p>\n

The Force is collaborating with its Nigerien counterpart in the
\ninvestigations to apprehend other members of the transnational syndicate
\ncurrently at large.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, as part of efforts at tackling transnational crimes, the
\nInspector General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni is working in
\nconcert with other members of the West African Police Chiefs
\nOrganization (WAPCO) to deepen intelligence sharing amongst security
\nagencies in the ECOWAS sub-region and strengthen security along the
\ninternational borders of member States.<\/p>\n

The suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigations.<\/p>\n

Recall that U.S military commandos rescued Walton who was being held in
\nNigeria after he had been kidnapped from his home in neighboring Niger
\ndays earlier, the Pentagon said.<\/p>\n

Defense officials said Walton had been taken Oct. 26 from his farm in
\nMassalata, Niger, by attackers who demanded ransom. Massalata is near
\nNiger\u2019s border with Nigeria. Mr. Walton was living there with his wife
\nand young daughter, officials said.<\/p>\n

During the predawn operation, led by members of the U.S. Navy\u2019s SEAL
\nTeam Six, U.S. forces killed six of Mr. Walton\u2019s seven captors, defense
\nofficials said.<\/p><\/div>\n
