A Wuse Zone II Magistrates\u2019 Court, Abuja on Monday, ordered that Omoyele
\nSowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters and four others be remanded in
\nKuje Correctional Centre pending hearing of their bail application.<\/p>\n
Chief Magistrate Marble Segun- Bello made the remand order shortly after
\nthe defendants were arraigned before her for allegedly embarking on a
\nprotest over 2021 crossover celebration.<\/p>\n
The Federal Government arraigned Sowore and the others on three-count
\ncharges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and attempting to
\nincite others.<\/p>\n
Sowore and the others were arrested by the Special Weapons Tactical Team
\nin Abuja while protesting on New Year\u2019a eve.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecution, the defendants were seen carrying placards
\ncalling for a violent revolution.<\/p>\n
They all pleaded not guilty to the three count charges.<\/p>\n
Following their not guilty plea, prosecuting counsel prayed the court
\nfor their remand at the Kuje Correctional Center as investigations into
\nthe charges were ongoing.<\/p>\n
However, the defendants\u2019 counsel, Mr Marshal Abubakar, attempted to make
\nan oral application for their bail, urging the court to grant them bail
\non self recognizance.<\/p>\n
Segun- Bello, however, ordered that the defendants file a formal bail
\napplication and adjourned the matter untill Jan. 5 to hear the bail
\napplication.<\/p>\n
She ordered that the defendants be remanded in Kuje Correctional Center
