The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it will not to be distracted
\nfrom its focus of delivering its campaign promises to Nigerians in spite
\nof the numerous challenges.<\/p>\n
This is contained in a statement by Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, Secretary
\nof APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee
\n(CECPC) on Tuesday in Abuja.<\/p>\n
Akpanudoedehe was reacting a statement credited to Peoples Democratic
\nParty (PDP) that Nigerians wanted it back in government.<\/p>\n
He described the statement as laughable.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe APC has noted yet with concern the tales and ramblings by PDP
\nissued as a statement, which to all discerning members of the public is
\nfull of sounds and fury, signifying nothing.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is our belief that Nigerians should be spared the trauma of a
\nreminder of the disaster of PDP\u2019s 16 years of misadventure in
\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe PDP should allow Nigerians to forgive it for the numerous
\ntransgressions and agony it put them through many years of misrule which
\nthe national chairman publicly apologised to Nigerians.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would ordinarily have allowed PDP to wallow in its usual illusion,
\nsince its descent from power in 2015,\u201d Akpanudoedehe said.<\/p>\n
He said that the APC was however, constrained to set records straight
\nbecause issues raised by PDP bordered on collective sensibilities of
\nNigerians.<\/p>\n
He said that Nigerians have consistently and resoundingly proven in two
\nconsecutive cycles of general elections as well as other off cycle
\nelections, their outright rejection of the PDP.<\/p>\n
This, Akpanudoedehe said, made the preference and endorsement of the APC
\nby Nigerians as the party of choice obvious.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe PDP\u2019s ranting reminds us of its ignominious era where crude oil was
\nsold at an average of 100 dollars per barrel for a consecutive period of
\nfour years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said that Nigeria got an excess of at least 30 dollars per barrel
\nabove budget benchmark by raking in surplus revenue with nothing to show
\nfor it.<\/p>\n
\u201cGoing by the cankerworm of revelations after the descent of PDP, the
\nCBN\u2019s vault was thrown open and virtually abandoning professionalism
\nwhere individuals drove in to cart away raw cash.<\/p>\n
\u201d We need to remind all patriotic Nigerians, once again of the missing
\n20 billion dollars from the coffers of government as reported by the
\nthen country\u2019s number one banker Malam Lamido Sanusi.<\/p>\n
\u201cBillions of naira meant for arms importation was reportedly discovered
\nin private jets belonging to allies of the then government in far away
\nSouth Africa, by the South African authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cBillions of dollars reportedly budgeted for the importation of arms to
\nfight terrorism, particularly Boko Haram terrorists, ended up in private
\naccounts of politicians and their cronies which was infestation of the
\nDasukigate scandal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Akpanudoedehe said the PDP was playing to the gallery in an attempt to
\nplay deniability and take away the gaze of Nigerians from the remarkable
\nstrides of the Buhari-led APC administration.<\/p>\n
He added that the Buhari administration inherited an empty treasury,
\nsaying that the global decline in oil prices in 2014, significantly
\naffected its well laid out plans for development.<\/p>\n
He further added that in spite of the challenges, the administration was
\nbuilding blocks for a virile and sustainable Nigeria, economically and
\nagriculturally and building strong institutions.<\/p>\n
He said that the Treasury Single Account (TSA) has successfully curbed
\nexcesses of government officials who may be prone to graft.<\/p>\n
Akpanudoedehe said that the government has successfully aligned
\nNigeria\u2019s budget cycle with the January-December window to allow for
\nbetter delivery of services to Nigerians.<\/p>\n
He added that the 326km Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri railway abandoned for more
\nthan 30 years has been completed and in full operations with modern
\ncoaches.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe 156.5km Lagos-Ibadan double track standard rail line is now in
\noperation, a lot of other rail lines are underway, with varying funding
\nneeds due to the PDP recklessness in times of abundance.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the power sector, the APC-led administration is battling to reverse
\nyears of neglect in spite of billions of dollars sunk into the cesspool
\nof corruption in the sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe 3050 MW Mambilla Power Project, conceptualised over 30 years ago,
\nis now receiving concrete attention, imagine if all these have been done
\nin the years when excess revenues were at the disposal of PDP,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said that the Buhari-led administration was carrying out monumental
\ninterventions which have leapfrogged Nigeria to the largest economy in
\nAfrica and the 25th largest economy in the world as announced by the
\nIMF.<\/p>\n
Akpanudoedehe wondered why the PDP would be deluding itself that
