Rivers State Executive Council has given\u00a0 approval for the construction
\nof a new House of Assembly quarters in Port Harcourt at the cost of
\nN10.1 Billion.<\/p>\n
The new legislative quarters which is expected to provide members of the
\nState House of Assembly\u00a0 global standard accommodation is expected to be
\ncompleted within 16 months.<\/p>\n
The approval for the construction of the new legislative quarters was
\ngiven during the State Executive Council meeting presided over by
\nGovernor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike at the Government House, Port\u00a0 Harcourt on
\nFriday.<\/p>\n
Briefing journalists shortly after the Executive Council meeting, the
\nCommissioner for Housing, Elder Chinedu Tasie, said\u00a0 the new Assembly
\nQuarters will be built at the same old site that the former one was
\nconstructed.<\/p>\n
Tasie explained that the project comprises of Thirty Two (32) number
\nFour bedroom duplexes as against the other block of flats now considered
\nto be\u00a0 obsolete.<\/p>\n
The Commissioner for Housing said two rooms boys quarters will be
\nattached to each of the duplexes.<\/p>\n
According to him, other\u00a0 features of the new legislative quarters
\ninclude: a multipurpose hall, green area, security accommodation, guard
\noffice , gate houses and network of roads and underground drainages.<\/p>\n
“It has been awarded to an indigenous company, Lubriks Construction
\nCompany to undertake the project for a period of 16 months\u00a0 and the
\ncontract sum approved is N10.1 billion. ”<\/p>\n
The Commissioner of Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim,
\nsaid the approval for the construction is a further demonstration of
\ngovernment’s determination to ensure that the legislative arm in the
\nState enjoys decent accommodation and to also boost the synergy that
\nexist between the two arms of government.<\/p>\n
“You will recall that in this State the relationship between the
\nexecutive, legislature and the judiciary is one that is being celebrated
\nacross the country because of the leadership that his Excellency,
\nGovernor\u00a0 Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has given in the State. So, we are looking
\nforward to a global standard accommodation for our legislators, which
