Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia on Monday inaugurated 1.5 km Egege and 2.3<br \/>\nkm Osusu roads in Aba with a promise to continually build roads that<br \/>\nwould outlive his tenure.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the inauguration in Aba, Ikpeazu said that the state<br \/>\ngovernment remained committed to building roads to make up the<br \/>\ninfrastructure deficit in Abia.<\/p>\n<p>The governor said that the economic significance of the roads could not<br \/>\nbe overemphasised because of their contributions to the socio-economic<br \/>\ndevelopment of the state.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, by 2014 there was no inroad for people coming into the<br \/>\narea from Akwa Ibom to perform commercial activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason for these projects is to ventilate the city for easy flow of<br \/>\ntraffic in and out of Aba.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRigid pavement technology was chosen to ensure that we deliver roads<br \/>\nthat would not develop issues of perennial failure,\u201d Ikpeazu said,<\/p>\n<p>He said that Abia Government was desirous to deliver high quality<br \/>\ninfrastructure, saying that its development agenda was focused on<br \/>\ntransforming Aba into an investors\u2019 haven.<\/p>\n<p>Ikpeazu urged the people in the area to create a neighbourhood watch<br \/>\nthat would ensure that there would be no act of vandalism of the<br \/>\nprojects.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech, Mr Bob Ogu, the Commissioner for Information, said that<br \/>\nthe roads had been impassable for over five years and expressed joy that<br \/>\nsolid infrastructure had been delivered to the people.<\/p>\n<p>Ogu said: \u201cThis road will be in good condition for 40 years and I urge<br \/>\nresidents to desist from dumping refuse in the drains because it has the<br \/>\npossibility of causing the roads to fail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet us take responsibility by protecting the infrastructure built by<br \/>\nthe state government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his remark, Mr Chimehilura Ikonne, the Chairman of Aba North Local<br \/>\nGovernment Area, thanked the state government for meeting the yearnings<br \/>\nof the people of the area.<\/p>\n<p>Ikonne said that the achievements of the state government had set a tall<br \/>\nstandard for him, saying that he strongly believed the project would<br \/>\nstand the test of time.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Mr Emmanuel Ebere, the Chairman of Aba South Local Government<br \/>\nArea, commended the state government for its determination to take Abia<br \/>\nto greater heights.<\/p>\n<p>Ebere said that the newly-inaugurated roads would alleviate the<br \/>\nsuffering of the people and improve their means of livelihood.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with newsmen, Mr Uzoma Onuoha, the Project Contractor,<br \/>\ndescribed the reconstruction of Osusu road as a restoration of<br \/>\nresidents\u2019 means of livelihood.<\/p>\n<p>Onuoha said that: \u201cOsusu road was a dumpsite due to abandonment and<br \/>\nneglect as it had over six dump sites.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe road was 6 metres wide but it had been expanded to 14 metres in<br \/>\nwidth and the drains were expanded to increase the size of run-off<br \/>\nwater.\u201d (NAN)<\/p>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"adL\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"hi\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ajx\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gA gt acV\">\n<div class=\"gB xu\">\n<div class=\"ip iq\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gov.
