{"id":77996,"date":"2021-01-27T20:22:18","date_gmt":"2021-01-27T19:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=77996"},"modified":"2021-01-27T20:22:18","modified_gmt":"2021-01-27T19:22:18","slug":"former-zamfara-gov-yari-forfeits-n284m-to-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/former-zamfara-gov-yari-forfeits-n284m-to-fg\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Zamfara Gov Yari forfeits N284m to FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1690065039752091256\" class=\"mail-message \">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">\n<div id=\"m68449\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered a final forfeiture of N284,<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal  \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">306, 294.04 linked to former Zamfara State governor Abdulaziz Abubakar<br \/>\nYari to the Federal Government.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, who gave the final forfeiture order, said Yari<br \/>\ncould not prove how he made the huge sum of money while or before<br \/>\nserving as governor of the state (between May 29, 2011 and May 29,<br \/>\n2019).<\/p>\n<p>The funds were kept in Zenith Bank and Polaris Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Yari and two companies belonging to him (Kayatawa Nig. Ltd and B.T. Oil<br \/>\nand Gas Nig. Ltd.) were indicted for alleged fraud and were dragged to<br \/>\nthe court by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other-Related<br \/>\nOffences Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Taiwo Taiwo, who had granted an interim order on the money on<br \/>\nAugust 16, 2019, told the respondents to exonerate themselves from the<br \/>\nICPC allegations.<\/p>\n<p>The money deposited at the two banks were $687,874.81 and about<br \/>\nN24,289,522.89.<\/p>\n<p>Yari\u2019s lawyer U. Kelechi urged the court to set aside the interim order,<br \/>\nclaiming that he was rich before becoming the governor of the state.<\/p>\n<p>Ojukwu, however, queried how one of Yari\u2019s company\u2019s bank accounts grew<br \/>\nfrom zero to a humongous amount at the end of his tenure.<\/p>\n<p>The judge dismissed allegation of a witch-hunt, saying: \u201cThe respondents<br \/>\nhave not countered the case and facts presented by the applicants. The<br \/>\nrespondents having failed to establish the legitimate source of the<br \/>\nmoney as stated in this case, the honourable court hereby makes an order<br \/>\nof final forfeiture of the following:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn order of final forfeiture of the sum of 12, 912, 848.68 naira being<br \/>\nproceeds of some unlawful activity stashed in Zenith Bank Plc\u2026in the<br \/>\nname of Abdulazeez Abubakar Yari.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn order of final forfeiture of the sum of $57, 056.75, being proceeds<br \/>\nof some unlawful activity stashed in Polaris Bank with account number\u2026in<br \/>\nthe name of Abdulazeez Abubakar Yari.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn order of forfeiture of the sum of N11, 159, 674 .17, being proceeds<br \/>\nstashed in Zenith Bank Plc\u2026in the name of Kayatawa Nigeria Limited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn order of final forfeiture of the sum of $319, 000.91 being proceed<br \/>\nof some unlawful activity stashed in Zenith Bank Plc\u2026in the name of<br \/>\nKayatawa Nigeria Limited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn order of final forfeiture of the sum of N217, 000.04 being proceeds<br \/>\nof some unlawful activity allegedly stashed in Zenith Bank Plc\u2026in the<br \/>\nname of B.T Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn order of final forfeiture of the sum of $311, 817.15 being proceeds<br \/>\nof some unlawful activity stashed in Zenith Bank Plc\u2026 the name of BT.<br \/>\nOil and Gas Nigeria Limited.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered a final forfeiture of N284, 306, 294.04 linked to former Zamfara State governor Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari to the Federal Government.
