{"id":78076,"date":"2021-02-01T18:36:20","date_gmt":"2021-02-01T17:36:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=78076"},"modified":"2021-02-01T18:36:20","modified_gmt":"2021-02-01T17:36:20","slug":"apc-chieftain-tony-momoh-dies-at-81","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/apc-chieftain-tony-momoh-dies-at-81\/","title":{"rendered":"APC Chieftain Tony Momoh, Dies At 81"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\">Former Information Minister and a chieftain of the All Progressive<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Congress, APC, Prince Tony Momoh has died, a family source confirmed to<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Pointblanknews.com<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">The former minister who was was born on 27 April 1939 in Auchi, Edo<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">state, died at the age of 81.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">He was a veteran journalist, politician and a former Minister of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Information and Culture (1986\u20131990) during the military regime of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">General Ibrahim Babangida.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Momoh was born on April 27, 1939 in Auchi, Edo state.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Tony Momoh Death: All You Should Know About Veteran Journalist<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Momoh He attended Government School Auchi (1949\u20131954) and Anglican<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">School Okpe (1954).[2] Momoh was Pupil Teacher at the Anglican School,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Auchi (January\u2013December 1955) and Headmaster at the Anglican School,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Ubuneke, Ivbiaro, Owan Local Government (January 1958 \u2013 December<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">1959).[3] He went to the Provincial Teachers Training College, Abudu,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Edo State and Government Teachers College, Abraka in Western Region<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">(1960\u20131961).[2]<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Later, while working at the Daily Times or on sabbatical, he attended<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (September 1964 \u2013 October 1966) where<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">he earned a degree in Mass communication, and then the University of<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Lagos where he studied Law. He attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">(October 1974 \u2013 May 1975), and was called to the bar in June 1975.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Momoh was appointed Minister of Information and Culture by General<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Ibrahim Babangida, holding this position from September 1986 until 1990.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Momoh was Chairman of the board of directors of Nigerian Airways from<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">1991 to 1993. He was appointed a Member of the Edo State Economic<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Advisory Committee in 1991, and a member of the Nigerian Press Council<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">in December 1992.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">As of 1996 Momoh was one of the directors of the Newswatch magazine,<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">said to have a circulation of 150,000 copies in Africa, Europe and North<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">America. Momoh was Director of the Alex Ekwueme Presidential Campaign<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Organization in 1999.He chaired the screening and conduct of Gubnetorial<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">and State House of Assembly primaries in Kano Chapter of the P.D.P. for<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">the 1999 General Elections together with Abdullahi Aliyu Sumaila and<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">Senator Bala Tafidan Yauri.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">He was chairman, Media and Publicity of the All Nigeria People\u2019s Party<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">(ANPP) Campaign Organisation in the 2003 and 2007 elections.
