{"id":78235,"date":"2021-02-05T19:45:27","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T18:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=78235"},"modified":"2021-02-05T19:45:27","modified_gmt":"2021-02-05T18:45:27","slug":"capital-importation-declines-by-14-31bn-in-2020-nbs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/capital-importation-declines-by-14-31bn-in-2020-nbs\/","title":{"rendered":"Capital importation declines by $14.31bn in 2020- NBS"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1690879967546724663\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">The total value of capital importation in 2020 stood at 9.68 billion<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">dollars compared to 23.99 billion dollars recorded in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said this in its \u201cNigerian<br \/>\nCapital Importation, Quarter Four (Q4), 2020\u201d report on its website on<br \/>\nFriday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The figure reduced by 14.31 billion dollars, represented a decline of<br \/>\n-59.65 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>It also said that the total value of capital importation into Nigeria in<br \/>\nfourth quarter stood at 1.06 billion dollars, representing a decrease of<br \/>\n-26.81 per cent compared to third quarter which had 1.46 billion<br \/>\ndollars.<\/p>\n<p>The bureau, however, said that the figure showed a decrease of -71.87<br \/>\nper cent when compared to fourth quarter 2019 which had 3.802 billion<br \/>\ndollars.<\/p>\n<p>The NBS added that the largest amount of capital importation by type in<br \/>\nfourth quarter was received through other investment, which accounted<br \/>\nfor 783.26 million dollars.<\/p>\n<p>The amount represented 73.22 per cent of total capital importation.<\/p>\n<p>This was closely followed by Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), which<br \/>\naccounted for 251.27 million dollars and also represented 23.49 per<br \/>\ncent.<\/p>\n<p>Also, portfolio investment which accounted for 35.15 million dollars,<br \/>\nrepresented 3.29 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>By sector, it said shares dominated in the period under review reaching<br \/>\n287.04 million dollars.<\/p>\n<p>The NBS also said that the United Kingdom emerged as the top source of<br \/>\ncapital investment in Nigeria in fourth quarter 2020 with 236.88 million<br \/>\ndollars, accounting for 22.14 of inflow.<\/p>\n<p>This was followed closely by Singapore with 181.11 million dollars and<br \/>\nUnited Arab Emirates (UAE) with 131.34 million dollars.<\/p>\n<p>For full year, the United Kingdom topped the chart with capital<br \/>\nimportation of 4.16 billion dollars, while UAE imported 899.44 million<br \/>\ndollars.<\/p>\n<p>Netherlands has 890 million dollars capital imported, while South Africa<br \/>\nhas 871 million dollars capital imported.<\/p>\n<p>By Destination of Investment, Lagos state emerged as the top destination<br \/>\nof capital investment in Nigeria in Q4 with 829.64 million dollars and<br \/>\nfor the full year with 8.304 billion dollars.<\/p>\n<p>By Bank, Citibank Nigeria Ltd., emerged at the top of capital investment<br \/>\nin Nigeria in fourth quarter 2020 with 216.17 million dollars and 1.507<br \/>\nbillion dollars by full year 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that data for the report was<br \/>\nsupplied by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), while it was verified and<br \/>\nvalidated by the NBS.
