\nThe Governor of Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, says that the
\nbank will partner government and relevant private sector organisations
\nto provide modern facilities in the heath sector and sponsor research on
\nCoronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in the country.<\/p>\n

Emefiele stated this on Friday in Asaba during a condolence visit to
\nGov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta at the Government House, Asaba, following
\nthe death of Pa. Arthur Okowa on Jan. 28 and the Majority Leader of the
\nstate\u2019s House of Assembly, Mr Tim Owhefere, who died a day earlier.<\/p>\n

He said that the bank intervention would provide sophisticated health
\nfacilities in the country to address healthcare needs of the people.<\/p>\n

He noted that such intervention had become necessary in view of the
\nwidening gap in the health service provision, adding that it was also in
\nresponse to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

He also disclosed that the Monetary Policy Committee was working to
\nsponsor research in pharmaceuticals on different diseases, and would in
\naddition, give funds to private sector participants in the health sector
\nto build pharmaceutical plants in the country.<\/p>\n

The governor added that the bank was ready to fund research on COVID-19
\nand in medicine and pharmacy so as to elevate Nigeria, \u201cand we are
\ndetermined to do this.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a very difficult time not just in Nigeria but also in the
\nglobal community where we have seen unprecedented health crises that
\ndevastated the entire world.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have decided as the Central Bank to support the efforts of
\ngovernment; we will do everything possible to ensure that we upgrade the
\nhealth facilities in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can say with all certainty that in the very near future, Nigerians
\nwill begin to see what the Central Bank is going to do to show that we
\nreally mean what we are doing.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo doubt, it is not just about building health facilities, but we have
\nalso tried as much as possible to extend various facilities to people
\nthat are interested in upgrading the health facilities in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are interested in supporting people who want to build pharmaceutical
\nplants in Nigeria, and that is the reason I never minced words in
\npractically all the Monetary Policy Committee meetings. We read out to
\nthe world through the Monetary Policy Committee to help to alleviate the
\nhealth crisis in Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emefiele lauded Gov. Okowa for his giant strides in the development of
\nDelta, especially in the health sector and pledged that CBN would
\npartner with him in the task of making healthcare affordable and
\navailable for residents of the state.<\/p>\n

Condoling with the governor, he said \u201cyour dad had sown great seed not
\njust in our kingdom but in Ika nation and in Delta as a whole.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people of Ika nation and Deltans will miss him dearly. We pray that
\nhis soul and all the faithful departed rest in peace.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also condole with you on the passing of Tim Owhefere, the Majority
\nLeader of State House of Assembly, who was another fine gentleman and
\ngood lawmaker.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Responding, Okowa commended CBN for the intervention in the country\u2019s
\nhealth sector, saying that any funding that would help to reduce the
\nwidening gap in the health sector was in the best interest of many
\nfamilies in the country.<\/p>\n

He said that the apex bank\u2019s policy on upgrade of health facilities and
\nagricultural revolution in the country was a move that would enhance the
\nhealth of Nigerians and stimulate the nation\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

According to Okowa, health and agriculture remain the mainstay of any
\ngrowing economy such as Nigeria and CBN\u2019s sponsorship of research in the
\nhealth sector and provision of funds to upgrade facilities in both
\npublic and private hospitals will be a new dawn in healthcare services
\nin the country.<\/p>\n

He thanked Emefiele for identifying with his family in this period of
\ngrief, and said that they had been consoled by the fact that their late
\nfather died in Christ and made positive impact in the society.<\/p>\n

He said \u201cas I appreciate you for this condolence visit, I must thank you
\nfor the policies you have put forth through the CBN and the most recent
\nis funding agriculture.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that the current policies being made by the CBN are such that
\nwill help to reduce that gap both in the private sector and in the
\npublic sector.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emefiele was accompanied on the visit by the CBN Deputy Governor,
