The Presidency has frowned at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) attack<\/div>\n
\n
\n

on President Muhammadu Buhari over the nomination of the former service
\nchiefs and the head of Military Intelligence to the Senate for
\nconfirmation as non-career ambassadors.<\/p>\n

According to a statement by Malam Garba Shehu, the President\u2019s Senior
\nSpecial Assistant on Media and Publicity, in Abuja on Saturday, the
\ntransition of the former heads of the Army, Navy, Air Force and the
\nMilitary Intelligence is normal in decent democratic societies.<\/p>\n

President Buhari had on Feb. 4 forwarded the names of the immediate past
\nService Chiefs to the Senate as non-career Ambassadors-Designate.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIn accordance with Section 171 (1), (2) (c) & sub-section (4)
\nof 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I
\nhave the honour to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the
\nunder-listed five (5) names of nominees as Non-Career
\nAmbassadors-Designate.\u201d<\/p>\n

The nominees are: retired Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin, retired Lt Gen Tukur
\nBuratai, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, retired Air Marshal Sadique
\nAbubakar, and retired AVM Mohammed Usman.<\/p>\n

The presidential aide, however, dismissed the position of the opposition
\nparty, PDP, on the nominations, wondering how decent people could run
\ndown hardworking professionals who served their father land with the
\nbest of their abilities just to score cheap political goal.<\/p>\n

The statement read in part: \u201cBut the newspapers and online media are
\nfull of pages of laughable criticisms of the President and former
\nService Chiefs by the party, the latest of which was the false claim
\nthat they were nominated as ambassadors so as to shield them from trial
\nby the International Criminal Court, ICC.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow on earth can decent people run down hardworking professionals who
\nhave put in their best to defend their country? How can you run down
\nyour country and equate that with normal political dialogue and
\nopposition?<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is baffling about this false and baseless assertion is that this
\nis coming, not from Boko Haram terrorists who the military kept largely
\nin check and confined to a known section of the country, Sambisa, but
\nfrom a so-called leading opposition party that fraudulently kept power
\nfor 16 years and is nursing the hope of one day returning to office as
\nan elected government.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is more, under these corrupt politicians the insurgency conquered
\nlarge swathes of territory-18 Local Government Areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cPray, if a political party, in a blind search for power can spurn the
\ninterest of the nation, embrace the language of hate campaign against
\nthe country\u2019s military as enunciated by the terrorists, as the PDP does,
\nwhat will be left for the Boko Haram to do?\u00a0 PDP is doing Boko Haram\u2019s
\nwork!<\/p>\n

\u201cWe live in an evidence-based era for arguments. If the PDP has evidence
\nof rights abuse against the military in the war against terrorists,
\nwouldn\u2019t it be beneficial to the nation that they publish such evidence
\ninstead of levying grave accusations without proves?<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd to ask, in whose interest are they making these accusations that
\nlack any depth?<\/p>\n

\u201cTo add, we don\u2019t think the ICC, which these childish calls are being
\nmade needs to be lectured on democratic values and human rights by the
\nPDP.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho are they, and what is their record in office to lecture anyone?
\nZaki Biam and Odi where thousands of citizens were on record, the
\ngenocide operation comes to mind. Did they report themselves to the
\nICC?\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Shehu added that PDP\u2019s attacks on the ambassadorial nominations should
\nbe seen in the context of the \u201copposition party\u2019s track record as a
\nuniversity of liars, whose modus operandi is to propagate lies.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

According him, the president is rewarding hard work and exceptional
\nsacrifice by a set of military leaders who gave their best to the nation
\nand will be remembered, sooner than later, for their contributions to
\nthe security and survival of Nigeria as one nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should be allowed to move to the next level.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is so that their examples will help to inspire others if given the
