{"id":78390,"date":"2021-02-12T10:53:52","date_gmt":"2021-02-12T09:53:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=78390"},"modified":"2021-02-12T10:53:52","modified_gmt":"2021-02-12T09:53:52","slug":"participate-in-occupy-lekki-protest-risk-arrest-says-lai-mohammed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/participate-in-occupy-lekki-protest-risk-arrest-says-lai-mohammed\/","title":{"rendered":"Participate in Occupy Lekki protest, risk arrest says Lai Mohammed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1691481825964878522\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\">The Federal Government has warned that anyone who participates in the\u00a0 planned Occupy Lekki protest would be\u00a0 arrested.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>According Information minister, Lai Mohammed,\u00a0 intelligence report has revealed that the protest would be hijacked and used to destabilize the country.<\/p>\n<p>At a news conference,\u00a0 Mohammed, said the Lekki toll gate is not a designated place for protests and warned that anybody who disregards the \u201cno protest\u201d warning would have to contend with the country\u2019s security agencies.<br \/>\n\u201cAt this time, the chances that any peaceful protest will be hijacked are very high. Based on the intelligence at the disposal of the Federal Government, some Nigerian activists have linked up with others outside Nigeria, including subversive elements, with a view to destabilizing the country. We cannot and must not allow this to happen. Never again will the Federal Government allow the kind of violence that was perpetrated across the country under the guise of the EndSARS last October. Never again will anyone or group be allowed to destroy cities or to kill and maim innocent citizens, including security agents, under any guise.\u201d<br \/>\nAsked what would happen if protesters ignored government\u2019s warning and gather at the toll gate tomorrow, Mohammed said: \u201cSecurity will do the needful. It would be irresponsible for anyone to think the toll gate would not be used. This is a facility that the state government still owes and still needs money to repair. It is meaningless for anyone to bar the state government from the toll gate. There\u2019s no concrete proof at the panel that anybody was killed at the toll gate (on October 20, 2020).<br \/>\n\u201cThe security agents are ready for any eventuality. A situation in which six soldiers and 37 policemen were murdered in cold blood by hoodlums will not repeat itself. The attack, looting and razing of 269 private and public property will not happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, The\u00a0 Attorney General of Lagos, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and Commissioner of Police, Hakeeem Odumosu have\u00a0 advised those organizing the \u201cOccupy Lekki Toll Gate\u201d and \u201cDefend Lagos\u201d protests to desist from the action.<br \/>\nOdumosu said intelligence gathered by the police indicated the \u201cOccupy Lekki Toll Gate\u201d protest and planned counter rallies would degenerate into a breakdown of law and order, stressing that the police would not allow any group to carry out the action.
