Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has said that the President Mohammadu<\/div>\n
Buhari’s led Government has not been able to account for the $1billion<\/div>\n
collected from the Excess Crude account to fight Boko Haram in 2017,<\/div>\n
vowing to resist the planned move to take another $1billion from the<\/div>\n
same account for same purpose.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Wike says Nigeria Governors Forum endorsement of\u00a0 fresh withdrawal of<\/div>\n
fund by the Federal Government from the Excess Crude Account will be<\/div>\n
contested.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The governor wondered what happened to the $1 billion withdrawn from<\/div>\n
Excess Crude Account in 2017 on the stance that it will be used to fund<\/div>\n
the fight against Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Governor Wike stated this when he played host to the Emir of Kano,<\/div>\n
Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, who was on courtesy visit to him at Government<\/div>\n
House, Port Harcourt on Friday.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Rivers State Governor said he will not support the plan for a fresh<\/div>\n
withdrawal except Rivers State is given its 13 percent share from the<\/div>\n
account.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Yesterday,\u00a0 I was told that the governors agreed that they will take<\/div>\n
money from Excess Crude to support military. What of the one they took<\/div>\n
before,\u00a0 the $1billion that they gave to the military?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Now again! This one, I’ll tell my Attorney General; you will have to<\/div>\n
prepare, we will go to court.\u00a0 I will not support that one except<\/div>\n
they’ll give us our 13 percent first from that Excess Crude Account.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Governor Wike told the Emir of Kano how his late father and other<\/div>\n
leaders in their time worked so hard in promoting love, peace and<\/div>\n
national unity among Nigerians.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He expressed the regret that current political and religious leaders are<\/div>\n
not building on those successes.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He said they are rather reducing every relationship,\u00a0 appointment,<\/div>\n
policy and programme of government to political and religious<\/div>\n
considerations.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Governor Wike insisted that Nigeria belong to everybody and no one<\/div>\n
section can assert itself over other. He said that is why he had<\/div>\n
provided conducive environment to all ethnic groups in Rivers State to<\/div>\n
coexist.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“It is important that where we are now,\u00a0 everybody,\u00a0 particularly<\/div>\n
traditional rulers,\u00a0 should know that they have major role to play in<\/div>\n
ensuring that peace reigns in this country.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“This is the first time in Nigeria when we have so much ethnic divide,<\/div>\n
so much religious divide.\u00a0 It has never happened like this before.<\/div>\n
After the civil war, people had seen Nigeria as one country. We have<\/div>\n
seen ourselves as the same people but what we are facing today is a<\/div>\n
different thing.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We are not even talking about the issue of insecurity, but the issue of<\/div>\n
ethnicity, and religion which have taken centre stage in our life which<\/div>\n
is not supposed to be.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The governor accused heads of security agencies, particularly the<\/div>\n
Inspection General of Police of politicising security by posting<\/div>\n
Commissioners of Police to the State on the order a\u00a0 politician in the<\/div>\n
ruling party.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Emir of Kano,Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero\u00a0 said his visit to Rivers State<\/div>\n
, the heart of the Niger Delta, is part of his fraternal tour to<\/div>\n
national leaders and traditional institution across the country.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Emir urged Governor Wike and other regional leaders to continue to<\/div>\n
ensure that the region remains a welcoming environment for all Nigerians<\/div>\n
to thrive.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He said Kano and Rivers States,\u00a0 face similar challenges and political<\/div>\n
leaders are encouraged to make the current challenges a bit more<\/div>\n
bearable for the common man.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We have therefore made it a point every time we meet with traditional<\/div>\n
or political leaders\u00a0 across the country to ask them to do all within<\/div>\n
their powers to make the challenges of today’s life a bit more bearable<\/div>\n
for the common man.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He commended the governor for the giant strides recorded in all spheres<\/div>\n
of governance and urged other leaders to emulate him.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Emir expressed his appreciation to Governor Wike for the protective<\/div>\n
and fatherly role he has continued to play in this turbulent times of<\/div>\n
the country’s history.<\/div>\n
