The U.S. on Friday officially re-entered the Paris Climate Agreement,<\/div>\n
nearly one month after U.S. President Joe Biden took office and<\/div>\n
immediately pledged to re-enter the deal.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cNow, as momentous as our joining the Agreement was in 2016 and as<\/div>\n
momentous as our rejoining is today what we do in the coming weeks,<\/div>\n
months, and years is even more important,\u2019\u2019 Secretary of State Antony<\/div>\n
Blinken said in a statement.<\/div>\n

\u201cClimate change and science diplomacy can never again be \u2018add-ons\u2019 in<\/div>\n
our foreign policy discussions,\u2019\u2019 Blinken added.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Paris agreement was negotiated during the Obama administration\u2019s<\/div>\n
final term in office, when Biden was vice president.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Former U.S. president Donald Trump took the U.S. out of the accords in<\/div>\n
2017, arguing that it put too many limits on what U.S businesses could<\/div>\n
do.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Paris agreement\u2019s long time lag meant that the U.S. did not formally<\/div>\n
exit the deal until November 2020.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The U.S. is the only country out of the 196 signatories to have left the<\/div>\n
agreement.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It is also the world\u2019s largest contributor of carbon emissions.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Biden, however, is a vocal advocate for multilateral agreements and<\/div>\n
diplomacy, and he has signalled that climate change is an issue he takes<\/div>\n
seriously.<\/div>\n

He named former secretary of state John Kerry as his special envoy for<\/div>\n
climate change, and gave him a role on the U.S. National Security<\/div>\n
Council.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Re-entering the agreement was one of his first moves as president.<\/div>\n
