The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa as substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).<\/p>\n
This followed the screening of the nominee at the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Bawa had at plenary, responded to questions from senators on his vision and mission for the commission.<\/p>\n
Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, new Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied selling recovered assets while serving as Port Harcourt Zonal Officer of the commission.<\/p>\n
Bawa gave the clarification, while responding to questions during his screening by the Senate on Wednesday in Abuja.<\/p>\n
He explained that the EFCC Secretary was the only person authorised\u00a0 to dispose off recovered assets.<\/p>\n
According to him, the assets in question were sold by EFCC Secretary and three directors, who travelled from the headquatres to Port Harcourt to carry out the exercise.<\/p>\n
He also dismissed claim that he was arrested by former acting EFCC Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Magu for undisclosed reasons, saying he had good working relationship with him.<\/p>\n
Bawa said that he was eminently qualified to be appointed as EFCC Chairman based on his years of service and the extant laws.<\/p>\n
He promised to work toward digitalisation of the operations of the commission.<\/p>\n
Bawa said digitalisation would enable Nigerians to have access to information on EFCC operations.<\/p>\n
He said the commission recorded 216 convictions on cases prosecuted in court during his stay as Port Harcourt Zonal Officer.<\/p>\n
Bawa said the EFCC secured convictions for over 90 per cent of all cases prosecuted in court.<\/p>\n
